- Improved Display Guarantees Amateur Cup Win
After three successive defeats Beechfield United Saturday Morning Senior Team were rewarded with a moral boosting win following their away game with Heywood St James Reserves on 4th November 2017. In the Saturday Amateur Cup a much improved display paved the way for a fully deserved 6-2 victory in Round 3 of the competition. United took the lead after twelve minutes via a neat one-two between Wes Pierce and Adam Leech who broke clear down the left flank and delivered a cross into the area where Scott Foulds was waiting to fire the ball home. Following constant pressure on their opponents Beechy increased their lead in the 26th minute when Wes Pierce supplied a superbly weighted through ball to Scott Foulds who was brought down in the area by the Heywood keeper. The referee immediately awarded United a penalty and Wes Pierce coolly converted the spot-kick for 2-0. Following another classic move down the left flank Adam Leech delivered a fabulous cross that was met by Scott Foulds who hammered the ball into the net for goal number three.
There was a rather indifferent start to the second half by Beechy and having to deal with some unwanted pressure conceded two goals in four minutes. Heywood St James won a free kick outside the area and the ball was dispatched past United keeper Dan Lee. Then just after the hour mark a mishit shot was not cleared and a Heywood forward had the easy task of netting the hosts a second goal. But United soon recovered their composure and dictating the pace of the game again added their fourth goal in the 71st minute. A defence splitting pass from Tom Stott sent Wes Pierce clear for a one on one with the keeper but Wes unselfishly squared the ball to Adam Leech who had a simple close range finish. Four minutes later it became 5-2 when several quick one-two's outplayed the hosts midfield trio leaving Wes Pierce to run at the Heywood defence and set-up Scott Foulds for his hat trick. Just before the final whistle Beechy put the seal on a satisfactory display with their sixth goal when Man of the Match Scott Foulds and Adam Leech combined in a slick move and the latter calmly finished past the stranded keeper.
