POSTED: September 16 2019 11:46:44. By Richard James - TORNADOES V SWINTON LIONS

Saturday 14th September, Beech Farm, KO 12pm, League.

Back to back home games saw us lining up, this time, against Swinton Lions. And with George Wadeson missing this was going to prove to be a tough encounter.

But that's what football is all about, it's about coping without key players and learning from that as a team.

Sadly for us, the penny took a while to drop and a very lacklustre display, coupled with extremely poor formation discipline, saw us ship 7 goals by half time.

Unfortunately, Richard and I had to make our feelings clear at half time, that this kind of performance was way beneath our lads. Thankfully for us, the guilty parties upped their game in the 2nd spell and started to do the basics right. And although there was still 1 or 2 careless errors, the attitude, as in previous weeks, was absolutely spot on in the second half.

A powerful 2nd period performance, peppered with better anticipation and some outbreaks of passing and moving football, saw the Tornadoes blow Swinton off the park.

There's no doubt that Swinton were absolutely rocking in the last 15 minutes and if we'd had another 10 minutes we'd have pegged them back.

To go toe to toe with a good 2nd division team and scare them witless, as we did, is brilliant. The big test for us is to translate that desire, effort and discipline in to a full 50 minutes.

To do this and I can only back up our manager's assessment we have to get fitter and we have to be more alert, keep our shape and pass, pass, pass and pass again!!

There are some good signs but, and I can't stress this enough, we need to get the basics right, especially in defending as a team.

Attacking wise, we don't seem as shy with 4 of our players getting amongst the goals. Josh's hat trick was a masterclass in finishing and Stewart (brace) and Martin added to the tally also. However, I think special praise has to be given for Logan's goal when, as a midfield, we pressed their goal kick, causing them to make a mistake, which Logan very skillfully capitalised upon!

In summary, much the same as the previous match: Sloppy first half, total transformation in the second.
MOTM: Josh.
