- DE LA SALLE HOLDING GROUP V TORNADOES
Sunday 4th December, Trafford Soccer Dome, KO 10am, Friendly.
Once again the Tornadoes found themselves playing on an artificial surface against a team a lot more used to the terrain. However, we did at least have the luxury of playing indoors so there wasn't any cold or rain to worry about. Although, the opposition were one school year younger I didn't think that the contest looked like a physical mismatch. Undoubtedly, the De La Salle team boasted some gifted and industrious players so I'm delighted that we didn't succumb too much to the pressure. De la Salle did take an early lead and held on to it, but they didn't race away with the tie and I always felt that the boys were in touch and very much in the match! The pace of the game was frantic due to there being no throw ins or corners. However, the plus side to that is a boost for fitness! Having only one sub meant that everyone got a good deal of playing time. This in turn meant that the boys could get in to a rhythm and it was great to see Flinn Rogers and Jack McMinn both notching their first ever goals for the club. Flinn's goal in particular saw some excellent work, and passing play with George Wadeson, to see him clean through to slot home. It was also good to see Alfie Lacey adding to his goal tally by getting a brace, one of which was an excellent free kick from near the half way line. There were other notable performances from Dylan Courtney (good tackling) and Logan McFeely who helped out in defence and deputised in nets for a while, to allow Jack to play outfield. However, MOTM went to George Wadeson for his ceaseless defensive endeavour and a world class pass to set up Flinn Rogers to score.
