- U8 TORNADOES V WINTON U8 WANDERERS DEVILS
Saturday 24th February, Beech Farm, KO 12pm, Friendly.
Despite glorious sunshine, it was a bitterly cold day for the Tornadoes to be once again plying their trade on grass.
However, it was good to be back at Beech Farm and playing against a team far more suited to our level.
It has to be said though, it was a scrappy game and I don't think we played that well. My point being that, although we had the vast majority of chances, and on another day we'd have been out of sight, the boys are capable of much better football.
Whether it was the scent of blood in the nostrils, I don't know what the cause was, but I felt we rushed ourselves. The football was clumsy, fast, frenetic and ultimately disappointing. The lessons learned in training didn't seem to be translating to the game itself.
Don't get me wrong, the boys effort levels were 100% but the desperation to score and get ahead in the game just clouded out all other considerations.
But for a miraculous goal keeping display from the Winton Keeper, we would have been winning comfortably, and who knows from that position of security we might have played a more expressive game.
I think really it just has to go down as one of those days, where we take the positives of a battling, full blooded and committed display that saw the boys rescue a draw in added time.
For that alone they deserve great praise!
Beechy goals, both came courtesy of a pillaging Stewart Kay and MOTM was given to the birthday boy, Logan McFeely.
