POSTED: October 15 2018 09:49:59. By Richard James - TORNADOES V WINTON SPARTANS

Saturday 13th October, Beech Farm, KO 1pm, League.

Although the scoreline suggests a comfortable victory, it was in fact hard won.

The first half saw us endure some very intense pressure. Winton must have had a dozen corners and, but for the heroics of Stewart (our stand in keeper) and the rest of the boys, particularly Dylan and George, I’m sure Winton would have netted a few.

As it was, we sustained the early onslaught and then started to carve out some openings ourselves, with Logan and Josh both coming very close. In fact some nifty footwork from Martin and Josh set up Logan, whose attempt at a cheeky chip almost paid off. That was a wonderful piece of play, which got all the spectators going!

With no goals registered for either team at half time, Logan moved in to nets for the second half and Stewart moved out to outfield.

Thankfully it wasn’t too long before Bailey, George and Eddie started to dominate the midfield. With our opponents tiring this meant that Stewart, Martin and Josh could really start to pile the pressure on. Eventually the barriers broke and Stewart, with good assistance from Josh and Martin, found a way through to secure a fantastic second half hat trick.

As I said in my team talk, it was good solid defending, as a team, that won that game for us. Keeping a clean sheet gave us a good platform to build on and, with the balance in the team that we currently have, we need to keep that team effort going!

All the lads were fabulous in this game with Logan’s second half, point blank save being a case in point. However, I think Colin deserves a special mention, as this was his best display in ages. His concentration was there the whole time, with his work rate and desire second to none.

However, MOTM had to go to Stewart for a brilliant goal keeping performance in the first half, followed by a brilliant hat trick in the second.
