Beechfield Thunder versus Old Trafford Juniors

Team
Angelo
Elliot
Finley
Che
José
Shammah

Another tightly contested game today against Old Trafford with both teams having significantly thinner squads than usual. With the ever commanding Bobby Schmeichel out with illness, it was Angelo stepping in as goalkeeper Finley Elliot in defence, Che in midfield and José leading the attacking front. Thunder started the game brightly making the most of Old Trafford's starting team of 4 players and it wasn't long before José managed to poke in a close range effort after some great pressure play in the box. The second goal came shortly after from a corner that led to a shooting chance for Che which he gladly took taking a deflection of the Old Trafford defender and into the net. Old Trafford's fifth player turned up shortly after and they managed to square things up before half time with two quickfire goals. Going into the second half thunder began to look for a third goal putting early pressure on the Old Trafford defence. Shammah began to find some pockets of space in the final third and when the chance came from a deflected cross ball from Finley he smashed in a fantastic long range effort off the half volley and into the roof of the Old Trafford net a goal the great Paul Scholes would of been proud of. Old Trafford began to get some momentum and Angelo was called on a couple of occasions making some good saves to keep Thunder in the lead. Thunder were kept working hard to keep the lead with Elliot and Che staying strong in tackles and Shammah trying to get the down the wings with Finley. Old Trafford did manage to make things all square after a break on the wing lead to their third goal. Thunder didn't let the goal deter them from getting back in the lead and it was Che who would deliver a lovely toe poked shot that flew past the Old Trafford keeper to get the Thunder boys back in front. Old Trafford managed to equalize shortly after when the Thunder boys failed to clear the lines at the back leading to an easy finish. With the game all square again it was unfortunate that Thunder conceded a fifth again from not clearing the lines at the back gifting Old Trafford with there fifth goal.
Overall a great performance from the boy's today considering we were short on players, but big improvements all round which is great to see 👍.

Man of the Match - Shammah who made himself an instant nuisance to Old Trafford when he came on, winning tackles and playing some great passes. He also has a goal of the season contender with his spectacular half volley shot for Thunder's third goal 👏.
