Beechfield Utd U11's Tornadoes v Salford United U11's Devils Salford and Districts Junior League 9v9 Yellow Group.

After three consecutive narrow defeats we changed our formation slightly today to get more bodies into the midfield. Salford started the game on the front foot forcing five consecutive corners in the first few minutes. After seemingly riding the storm Salford scored shortly after in fortuitous circumstances with a cross which flew into the roof of the net. Beechy slowly started to get used to the formation and grew into the game, with Dawood Fakeeh forcing home the equaliser. Salford again took the lead with another high shot giving first half stand in keeper Ralph Theaker no chance. Ralph then did a tremendous save shortly after tipping a venomous Salford shot over the bar. After this point it was all Beechy for the rest of the half and was a matter of time before the equaliser, which came when a superb Grayson Evans run saw him strongly tackled just as he was about to pull the trigger. The ball broke to Freya Quinn on the left who magnificently finished from a tight angle to level the score, for Freya's first goal of the season. Beechy finished the half much the stronger side but there were no more goals before the break.

The second half continued in the same manner as the first with Beechy on the front foot. We took the lead for the first time with a fine Jayden Lowe goal from the right. We then had more chances, but against the run of play Salford were gifted a penalty when Alex McGrory was harshly adjudged to have fouled the Salford forward. Alex clearly played the ball, and the decision was met with bemusement by all, including the Salford coach who confirmed it should not have been given. Salford scored the penalty which crept in off the post past 2nd half stand in keeper Reuben McCormick to level things again.

Again Beechy were on the front foot, but Salford did look dangerous on the counter and broke away to score to lead again. Again Beechy felt hard done by when Salford scored fifth goal, the goalscorer appearing to be many yards offside. Beechy would not give up however. Grayson, Dawood and Ralph (playing outfield 2nd half) all had chances to score. Jayden Lowe got his 2nd of the game with five minutes left, setting up a tense finish. Despite forcing late corners we could not get the goal/s our play deserved and we suffered another narrow defeat.

A really entertaining game today played in the right spirit by both sides. After a slow start the Tornadoes were the better team for the majority of the match and really should have won, but luck was not on our side today. A much better performance from all however and it won't be long before we start turning some of these narrow losses into victories I'm sure. Player of the Match was Jayden Lowe with his brace.
