- Saturday Morning Storm Match Reports (July/August)
As they prepare for life in the Manchester Saturday Morning League Beechfield United Open Age Storm arranged a series of pre-season friendly games.
*Storm's first pre-season game on 26th July 2025 was against Old Rivingtonians and Beechy almost went ahead when a shot by Sam Everall flashed just wide of the target. Playing some great football Storm continued to create chances and there were efforts from Joe Northall and Joe Melling before Max put Beechy 1--0 up after a pass from Luke. HT 1-0. Early in the second half Max set-up a chance for Harry who fired the ball over the crossbar then Mac had a chance to score following great play by Peter Lever. Old Rivingtonians made it 1-1 but Storm regained the lead when Joe Northall punished a mistake by the Old Rivingtons keeper. Beechy were guaranteed their 3-1 victory after Man of the Match Harry Officer scored from a superbly executed free kick.
*Beechy faced a tough ninety minutes in their away friendly against Atherton Colleries on Saturday 9th August 2025 with just eleven players in attendance at kick off. The hosts opened the scoring then Jack Dowie went close to an equaliser prior to keeper Andrew Woodward producing a brilliant save. After Storm had a player sent to the sin bin they created some great passing moves but after breakaway attack just before half time Atherton went 2-0 up. Making a excellent start in the second half Beechy forced seven corners on the trot but they suddenly found themselves 3-0 down. Far too many poor decisions by the referee went against Storm and Atherton added goal number four from an obvious offside and the hosts increased their lead with a fifth goal from the penalty spot. Atherton made it 6-0 before Louis on his debut netted Beechy's consolation goal. Andrew Woodward produced a great save after Atherton were awarded their second penalty of the game but the hosts got a seventh goal following another bizarre decision by the referee.
*On Thursday evening 14th August 2025 travelled to play Manchester Football League outfit Tottington United. The gulf of class between the teams was apparent from the kick- off and the hosts had the games first early chance. Storm had to deal with some heavy pressure and their keeper David made a great double save before Tottington opened the scoring and the hosts added a second goal to lead 2-0 at half time. Beechy improved their workrate in the second half and Louis saw his shot go wide before Tottington added their third goal. A deserved goal for Storm arrived when Louis Al Khalil rounded the hosts keeper for an easy finish but close to the end of the game Tottington scored a fourth goal. One consolation for the Beechy Boys was that they won't play teams of this standard every week.
*It took Storm about ten minutes to find their rhythm in the friendly match against AFC Stockport before Beechy grabbed the lead. A great pass from Man of the Match Joe Melling was controlled by Joe Northall who made no mistake when he curled the ball into the net. Stockport equalised after a mistake at the back then just before half time Storm conceded a second goal. At the start of the second half Beechy lost their keeper due to an injury and as the game got away from Storm the hosts added six more goals. Billy was on target for Beechy when he made it 8-2 but Stockport scored again near the end.
