POSTED: September 01 2020 22:09:18 By Richard James - WINTON W WARRIORS V TORNADOES

Saturday 5th September, Cleaveleys, KO 9.30am, Friendly.

After a very long lay off it was great to get back to playing proper football.

Starting with 2 new players in Vikash and Reece, the Tornadoes got off to a flying start with Stewart finding the net after 2 minutes.

And although the Warriors soon equalised, the Tornadoes enjoyed the superior possession and fashioned the vast majority of chances.

Unfortunately for us, it was this inability to make our dominance count that probably cost us the game. Although it was brilliant to see 'new boy' Vikash get on the score sheet, after netting Stewart's rebound, we really should have taken greater advantage.

In the second spell, with the Warriors having a lot more of the ball and the defence under severe pressure, we did succumb to an equaliser.

However, Stewart quickly restored our advantage with a brilliant solo break from midfield. Even with 10 minutes to go, and enduring a lot of pressure, we were still ahead.

But, it wasn't to be as we eventually, now dead on our feet, let in an equaliser followed by a fortunate winner for our opponents.

Although it was disappointing not to get at least a draw, which I thought we deserved, it was good to see that it was a competitive game and that we did perform quite well, especially in the first half.

I think for us fitness was an issue, as well as only having 2 subs. Also, we blooded 2 new players and they'll take time to settle in.

Overall though, it was a good start with some very encouraging signs, hence the whole team got the MOTM award.

I certainly was delighted with the formation and tactical discipline of our defensive unit as well as Oscar's early forays up the wing in support of Vikash. Naturally that feature petered out in the second half, due to fitness, but it should improve as the season goes on and I really think it will give as an added attacking dimension.

Again in the first half there was some lovely spells of quick passing and moving amongst the midfield and again the signs were extremely heartening!

Well done boys,
Oscar
