POSTED: March 31 2022 14:48:58 By Oscar Courtney - SWINTON PANTHERS V TORNADOES

Saturday 26th March, Duncan Mathieson Playing Fields, Supplementary Cup, Kick Off 10am.

The last time we played Swinton Panthers, in the league, we ran out very comfortable winners. And although I had noted their recent cup win at home to Parkwyddn, nothing could've prepared me for the transformation in their team.

Looking very assured and confident, the Panthers were a goal up within a few minutes of kick off. Looking slightly dazed and shell shocked by our opponents swift passing play, events took a worse turn when Swinton soon scored a second from a free kick, to go 2 up early doors.

Therefore, our lads deserve a good deal of credit for not folding at this point and instead starting to get a grip on the game. And despite playing uphill, we started to make things happen with Stewart eventually pulling one back for us, before the interval.

That vital penetration gave us the lift we needed and in the 2nd half, now playing downhill we started to make things happen.

There's no doubt that Swinton were formidable opponents, with their goal keeper especially outstanding. Also, as a team they defended magnificently and we really had to battle to claw our way back to parity, which we eventually did with Oscar snaffling up a poor clearance.

However, I think we deserved that equaliser and for the last 10-15 minutes, Swinton were hanging on. Despite that we couldn't get that 3rd goal and at the end we had to settle for a 2-2 draw and a penalty shootout.

I won't go into the agony of the penalties, other than to say that the Tornadoes won through 3-4 with Jack, our 'keeper' getting the decisive penalty for us.

In summary, it was a very hard game, but I thought the boys rose to the occasion and really dug deep to salvage a draw after being 2 down early on in the match.

MOTM went to Eddie for not only his efforts in this game but throughout the season. He's not one of the glamour players, as I said at the time; "a real unsung hero", but he's a vital component in this team!

Final Score:
Swinton Panthers 2 - 2 Tornadoes
Tornadoes win 3-4 on penalties.
