Saturday 25th September, Beech Farm, KO 10am, Friendly.

Because this game was earmarked as a friendly, we had no referee allocated by the League. Luckily, for us I managed to secure the services of my brother in law, Ricky.

Ricky took the morning off, from his painting and decorating job to basically help us out and it was, I thought, a kind gesture. Ricky used to coach what would now be the U17s team, so he has a longstanding affiliation with Beechfield United and loves the club dearly. Ultimately the game needs referees and sadly they are in short supply. Therefore, I feel that it is incumbent on us all - Coaches and Players, that we remember to respect the referees.

Now on to the game itself. With a couple of key absentees and playing Salford Storm for the first time, I wasn't sure what to expect. Thankfully though the boys were very well organised, especially at the back and all through the game we kept our shape.

Despite this being a close result I think we looked more and more comfortable as the game wore on and I suspect that on another day we would have racked up several more goals.

As it was though, the brace from Reece, with two very well taken finishes, was enough to secure us the win. With Jack and the back 3 all working well and covering for each other in defence, we rarely looked in any real danger.

However, the key for me was the display in midfield. Oscar especially in his Central Midfield role was at the heart of everything and i thought he was exceptional in that position. Reece too stood out and his positioning in his CDM role was incredible. Great maturity for his age, hence he got the MOTM Award!

Josh, Finn, Feranmi and Bailey also played in midfield and it's heartening to see how much they've developed.

I was also pleased with Logan as the lone striker. It's not an easy position to play but he kept at it and I think he really enjoyed himself.

Which brings me nicely back to where I started! These games, albeit, it's competitive Junior Football, are ultimately about children enjoying themselves, playing with their friends and developing as players and as people. Let's try not to lose sight of that fact.

Final Score:
Tornadoes 2 - 1 Salford Storm
(Reece 2)
