POSTED: December 01 2018 15:58:10 By Phil Hesketh - I love the smell of football in the morning.

Urmston Town 2-7 Typhoon
It smells of victory!
Looking at the table before the game we knew this was a game we could target but so was last Saturday’s debacle and we would be without Peter for the first time this season. Reece and Sonny gamely volunteered to take a stint in nets and we’d worked with them in training.
It was a pretty grim morning but we started off well and put them in trouble but somehow found ourselves a goal down. Reece quickly equalised, outmuscling his defender and slotting in from a narrow angle. We reasserted our control but found ourselves 2-1 down. I think they scored from their first two shots. Thankfully the boys’ heads stayed up and we scored twice before the interval through Reece and Sam to lead at halftime. Sonny had done a great job in nets and after the first few minutes, when the defence had looked a little shaky, we were doing OK.
We talked about going at Urmston in the second half and pointed out Sonny would be fresh against their tiring legs. Sonny took note of the chat and started using the ball really well. Joseph got on the end of a lovely dinked pass and finished beautifully. Urmston’s heads were going down, one of their’s started going down theatrically (much to his coach’s annoyance) but nothing could stop Typhoon now. They played with a swagger we’ve not seen for a while epitomised by Sam’s quite tremendous display. He twisted their defenders inside and out all half including earning a penalty. The keeper made a good save but this Sam was alert all game and slotted home the rebound. Jamie scored a cracking free kick, Sonny scored, and Daniel made a diving goal line interception to ensure our dominance. My only complaint towards the end was that the boys were getting a bit greedy and going for individual glory when passes would have resulted in even more goals, but they can be forgiven for that. It’s been a long time since a comfortable win.
It had to take something special to beat Sonny and Reece for the man of the match award but Sam was exceptional today.
All the boys put in a good stint and it was their attitude that made the difference today. They all put that extra effort in and kept their heads high. It also helped that, seemingly for the first time this season, we were actually the same size as the opposition! We play Urmston again next weekend at Beech Farm and need the same type of performance again. It’s a great opportunity for us to get off the bottom and towards where we deserve to be in the table.
I haven’t mentioned Harry, Milo, Cole, Harley and Freddie above but all gave good accounts of themselves and it’s noticeable they mainly played in defence where we were quietly efficient, whilst those further up the pitch ran amok.
Well played boys
