We played Culcheth Scorpions who are unbeaten and running away with the league, scoring for fun. With players leaving recently and David injured we had a depleted squad. And when we turned up at our new home of SSV the wind was howling, we lost the toss and had to defend against the wind. I feared the worst. For the whole first half we couldn’t get out of our half, corner after corner came in and even our goal kicks were barely getting out of the area. But the lads defended well, the back line and defence held as firm as they could against constant onslaught from the opposition. I was so relieved to hear the half time whistle with us just the 5 goals down. It could of been double that at least.
To be fair to the lads they kept their heads up and went out in the 2nd half with the wind behind them. We played much better, keeping the ball on the floor and playing much higher up the pitch. Our lack of a recognised striker didn’t help and Culcheth had some quality defenders in their team. The opposition continued to play good football and scored a couple more before the ever busy Cherif trying to make space for a shot in the box was fouled, although he never went down fair play to the ref for pointing to the spot. Cherif stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way for a well deserved goal for the whole team. Culcheth got a late goal to make it 1-8.
Can’t fault the lads efforts, they put everything in. A couple of the new lads stood out in Daine and Christopher, with Chris just edging the MOTM.

Final score 1-8
