- Tornadoes v Manchester Bees
Saturday 4th January, University of Salford, League, KO 10.30am
Match Report by Wayne Mather:
Standing in for the Gaffer on a cold morning KO, we faced our nemesis who beat us 5-0 on the last encounter (so no pressure there ! ), last time they totally out played us and caught us on the break frequently. We all decided in Training that this wasn't going to happen again, we practiced scanning on and off the ball, positioning and 2v2, 3v2 attacks, I was delighted to note that the session went very well so I was confident our boys would put a decent shift in on matchday. They didn't disappoint, playing a 4-4-2 we unpicked their midfield with a solid performance from our midfielders, the Bees advance checked and the ball returned to our forwards for wave after wave of shots, piling the pressure on their defence saw Finn putting Josh through for the opener, by half time its 1-0, I could see our spirits lift and confidence inflate.
Mature observation from our captain with positive discussions and accountability from our players we began the 2nd half and it wasn't long before Oscar was set up for a shot making us 2-0, the gas was certainly turned up by the Bees, not a team to be caught on the back foot as they did on many occasions forcing Harley to make some dramatic saves, reminding us of their capabilities. Our defence worked tirelessly as they dug out the ball and sent it forward, a beautiful header from Jayden put us 3-0 up, although we began to tire, making a few substitutions and a chess game of moving players around the pitch plugging gaps to keep the Bees out, this tactic paid off and Oscar scored putting us 4-0 the better.
A thoroughly entertaining match and a confidence boost for the boys, well done everyone I am so very proud of you all.
