- 5-2 Home Win For Under 17's Storm
On the Astroturf Pitch at Salford Sports Village Beechfield United U/17's STORM met Standish Panthers and following a solid-all round performance secured a 5-2 victory.
*Beechy kicked-off this Bolton Bury and District League Section B fixture and in the opening ninety seconds a surging run by Bradley Oliver set-up a headed chance for Billy Jones and there were several neat touches on the ball by Luka Ottiwell as Beechy went close to taking an early lead. Ben Delaney produced some excellent defending as the Panthers made a fast start and Ben's link-up play with Oliver Lawton created a chance for Evan Hodson-Griffiths who fired the ball into the side netting. Several promising attacks from the visitors were directed down the left wing but on a couple of occasions both Max Hinchy and Harrison Davies won the ball with superbly timed tackles.
In the 12th minute Storm took the lead through leading marksman Evan Hodson-Griffiths who raced onto a pinpoint pass from Harrison Davies and supplied a clinical finish past the keeper. Three minutes later Beechy went 2-0 up via Aaron Cardall who met Max Hinchy's free kick and glanced a header low into the corner of the net. The visitors were always a threat on the counter-attack and Storm keeper in the first half Lewis Wallis was thrust into action. Standish Panthers won their first corner after twenty minutes and after the ball was curled into the area Ben Delaney produced a fine headed clearance.
A quick breakaway move involving Ben, Bradley Oliver and Alfie Jones ended when the latter fired a half-volley just wide of the target. Slightly against the run of play Standish Panters got a goal back courtesy of a spectacular long range strike from their No8. As the game retained it's rapid pace Beechy worked hard to get a tighter grip on the game and a quality long pass by Evan found Bradley who jinked his way past two opponents before winning a corner. Twice in quick succession Luka Ottiwell almost helped himself to a goal when his first effort was saved by the keeper then a close range header dropped the wrong side of the post.
Long accurate kicks from the Standish keeper were always a threat to Beechy's back four but the defensive quartet always dealt confidently with the on going situation. The visitors No19 hit the post with a shot from eight yards and during a goalmouth scramble Storm somehow forced the ball out of the danger zone. Lewis Wallis reacted superbly when he dealt with a long direct pass aimed for the Standish No16 who had timed his run into the area. Just before half time Beechy took a 3-1 lead via Alfie Jones who added the finish after a slick quick passing move involving Max Hinchy and Bradley Oliver. Storm replaced their goalkeeper in the second half when David Rice took over from Lewis Wallis and the substitute soon got a taste of the action.
Following a free kick Standish Panthers were rewarded with their second goal when the visitors No10 glanced a header low into the net and suddenly facing added pressure Storm briefly relied on some vital defending from Harrison, Aaron and Ben. A terrific mazy run by Evan created a good chance but no teammate was able to add the vital touch after a low cross into the area. Winning possession Alfie Jones sent the ball onto Luka Ottiwell who's effort won Beechy a corner and following Max Hinchy's flag kick Harrison Davies scored Storm's fourth goal with a close range header. Great defending by Aaron and Ben was vital when Standish won a couple of corners while David Rice dealt with a powerful header by the visitors No8.
Christian Idusuyi and Callum Nothard replaced Billy Jones and Oliver Lawton when Beechy made a couple of substitutions. Storm continued to create more quality attacking football and from Evan's pass Alfie Jones fired the ball wide then Luka's effort hit the crossbar. Christian with a great last ditch tackle and Harrison via a well judged headed clearance helped keep the visitors at bay. Then during a another attacking surge late in the game from the Panthers top-class defending from Ben and two fine saves from David denied Standish the chance of forcing at least a draw. Seconds before the final whistle Alfie won a corner and with his twenty eighth goal of the season Evan Hodson-Griffiths made it 5-2 when he completed the scoring.
