- Sat Morn Team Keep Title Hopes Alive
After the long wait Beechfield United Saturday Morning Senior Team finally got their Division 1 campaign back underway with a 4-2 away win over Manchester Celtic.
United expected a tough ninety minutes because their opponents won promotion from Division 2 after winning all their games. Making a strong start to the match Beechy pushed hard for the opening goal and took the lead after ten minutes via leading goal scorer Max Leonard. Then on the twenty minute mark United went 2-0 up when central defender Anthony Wallis scored his first goal of the season after he got on the end of a wonderful cross from Wes Pierce. As they maintained a tight grip on the contest Beechy increased their lead thanks to Max Leonard who was on target again to put United into a strong position at half time.
Starting the second half as they finished the first Beechy continued to dominate possession and producing more fast flowing football took a fully deserved 4-0 lead through Man of the Match Issiaka Saba. United then made several changes however this disrupted their overall display and allowed Manchester Celtic the chance to get a better foothold in the game. The hosts got a goal back after Beechy were guilty of some rather slack defending but United managed to settle down again as they made better use of the ball. Manchester Celtic added their second goal from the penalty spot in the final seconds but this didn't spoil the mood as Beechy celebrated a comfortable victory plus three vital points. Currently United who occupy second place in the league table have three games in hand on leaders AFC Middleton.
