- United Unable To Ease Relegation Worries
Away to Chadderton Reserves for their latest Manchester Football League fixture Beechfield United 1st Team were dealt a cruel blow as they attempt to avoid relegation from the Premier Division.
Once again United who were forced to make team changes deserved at least a draw but it was Chadderton who stole the three points via a 3-2 victory. The hosts created the games first real attack and United's keeper Prince Kojo was called into action in the 2nd minute. Central defender Joe Poyser made a well timed tackle and quickly moved the ball onto Keenan Switzer who sent Ryan Pollard on a solo run buy Beechy's No9 lost the ball due to the uneven playing surface. Twice in quick succession Prince Kojo rescued United when he saved efforts from Chadderton's No10 & No11 then during a goalmouth scramble Zach Booth cleared the ball from almost on the goal line.
A great piece of play in midfield by Ryan Rawlings set-up a decent chance for Callum Davies who's shot on target was easily dealt with by the Chadderton keeper. As the hosts continued to focus numerous attacks down both wings United full backs Danny Royle and David Opiyo defended superbly and on one occasion the latter blocked an effort on target from Chadderton's No9 before Prince Kojo made a fantastic save from the rebound. An excellent crossfield pass from Bradley Hodges was controlled by Adam Leach and after United's No11 had created a shooting opportunity he volleyed the ball wide of the target.
Against the run of play Beechy took the lead in the 20th minute through leading marksman Callum Davies who after beating the offside trap ran onto a brilliant through ball by Bradley Hodges and beat the keeper via a low finish. Chadderton were soon back on the attack and the hosts No9 had the ball in the net but he was caught in an offside position then the same player sent a header over the crossbar after a corner. More great defending from David Opiyo, Joe Poyser, Zach Booth and Danny Royle denied the hosts a first half equaliser and Prince Kojo played his part with two more first-class saves.
The two Ryans Rawlings and Pollard linked-up again in another quick exchanges of passes that eventually won Beechy another corner. Maintaining a constant flow of counter-attacks Chadderton went close on several occasions and a powerful header by the hosts No5 dipped just over the crossbar. Straight from the restart Chadderton won possession and an effort by the hosts No2 was just off target before United conceded an equalier in the 48th minute following a corner. Keenan Switzer, Ryan Rawlings and Bradley Hodges battled hard to regain control of the midfield but another piece of slack Beechy defending gifted Chadderton a 2-1 lead after fifty six minutes.
But four minutes later United were back level through Adam Leach who controlled a superb pass from Keenan Switzer before advancing into the area and hammering the ball beyond the keeper. Still enjoying more of the ball Chadderton forced more vital defending from David, Joe, Zach and Danny who was replaced by Kurtis Lee just after the hosts went 3-2 via their No5 from a corner. As United pushed hard for an equlaliser efforts by David Opiyo and Adam Leach deserved a better finish then when play zoomed to the other end of pitch Prince Kojo who shared the Man of the Match award with Keenan Switzer made another brilliant save.
