- Junior Section Match Details 15/4/2023
Making the combined headlines on Saturday 15th April 2023 were Beechfield United U/8's Thunder, U/10's Tornadoes & U/14's Hurricanes who booked their place in the relevant Salford & District League Cup Finals.
*Beechy U/10's TORNADOES got the chance to reach their second cup final after topping their group in the Supplementary Cup. At home to local rivals Moorside Rangers Blue in the semi-final the Tornadoes secured their place in the Challenge Cup final. Making a fine start Beechy put early pressure on their opponents and Jack Hoatson opened the scoring after five minutes with a brilliant solo run and tidy finish. Jack added Tornadoes second goal via a double cheeky nutmeg finish and it was one-way traffic for the rest of the tie. Rangers didn't create many chances and unable to deal with Beechy's high pressing game were pinned in their own half. Tornadoes other goalscorers were Kai Barker, Luke Bennett, Daniel Badewa, River Langford and Man of the Match Oliver Vernon who's fantastic long range goal created the highlight of the contest. Playing some brilliant football the Tornadoes thoroughly deserved their win.
*The U/13's TORNADOES met Signol Athletic in the Supplementary Cup and after conceding a last minute goal lost the tie 4-3. Midway through the second half Beechy found themselves 3-0 down but the Tornadoes produced a magnificent fightback and two goals from Josh Beddows and one by Dylan Cervenak made it 3-0. Working hard all over the pitch the Tornadoes went close to securing a victory but unfortunately Beechy failed to deal with a corner in the last sixty seconds a gifted Signol Athletic their match winning goal.
*Following an outstanding overall performance the U/16's TYPHOON secured a 3-2 victory over Bolton Lads and Girls Club. In this Bolton Bury and District League Section D home game Beechy made a confident start but following a bad defensive error Typhoon conceded the opening goal after the visitors were awarded a penalty. Producing a positive response Beechy gradually created some great chances and were rewarded with a rare goal from Sam Henderson who made it 1-1. On the artificial surface play switched rapidly from end to end and Typhoon took the lead thanks to a tremendous half volley from Reece James. Following a period of sustained pressure Bolton Lads got back level and Typhoon were guilty of giving away far too many cheap free kick around the penalty area. But Beechy produced some great defending and there were excellent headed clearances from Ryan O'Sullivan and Sonny O'Brien. The visitors displayed a slight lack of disipline and Reece James was on target again when he completed the scoring with Typhoon's third goal which proved to be the match winner. Sonny O'Brien was voted Man of the Match.
*At Salford Sports Village the U/17's STORM hosted Atherton Colls Vipers a team Beechy had defeated with a last minute winning goal on the first day of the season. Despite a bright opening period Beechy went 1-0 down but they found an equaliser when Alfie Jones produced a neat finish for his third goal in as many games. With half time approaching Atherton regained the lead after a cross into the area was missed by Storm's defenders and the ball was tapped home from close range. Early in the second half Beechy made it 2-2 through leading marksman Evan Hodson-Griffiths who added a decisive finish during a one-on-one with the visitors goalkeeper. Storm continued to press hard and had chances to take the lead before they conceded a third goal from a corner when a header deflected off an Atherton player and into the net. The visitors added a fourth goal and after Atherton went 5-2 up Beechy heads dropped against their strong and physical opponents. A third Storm goal made the scoreline more respectable when an effort by Evan came back off the post and the ball was slotted into the net by Callum Nothard. This defeat all but ended Beechy's hopes of winning the Section B title.
