- U/14's Hurricanes Secure Cup Final Place
Following a brilliant all-round performance Beechfield United U/14's Hurricanes secured their place in 2023 Challenge Cup Final.
*In the Salford and Districts League the Hurricanes were in action at home where they met Salford Storm Tornadoes in the semi-final. The visitors took the lead after a luckly bounce of the ball released a Tornadoes forward who got a shot on target which was blocked by Hurricanes keeper Oliver Dalton-Bunker but the rebound was tapped into the empty net. Oliver limped off the pitch after a heavy challenge in a run up to the goal and was replaced by Alfie Rostron while Jamie Maher came on in midfield. The Hurricanes equalised when Jamie worked hard to win possession on the right flank before releasing Oliver Nangle who displayed great composure and footwork before firing the ball beyond the keeper. Oliver then won Beechy a free kick and from just outside the area Joshua Whitehead was unluckly to see his fine effort dip just over the crossbar. Following another heavy challenge on a Beechy player the referee awarded the Hurricanes a penalty after a foul on Henry Errington and JJ Lowery put Beechy 2-1 from the resulting spot-kick.
Victim of yet another poor tackle Oliver Nangle was replaced by Daniel Robinson and the game retained it's fast pace up to the break with Beechy still holding their one goal advantage at half time. The second half got underway and the Hurricanes continued to make substitutions with Oliver Dalton-Bunker and Oliver Nangle back in the action allowing Daniel and JJ a well earned rest. Man of the Match Owen Hogben continued to be a big influence in the game and Beechy increased their lead after a move involving Jamie Maher and Rafael Alarcon led to the Hurricanes winning a free kick and from the dead ball situation Alfie Rostron curled the ball into the net. Salford Storm set-up a tense final ten minutes when a long ball released the visitors quick striker who made it 3-2 via a close range finish but the Hurricanes confidently dealt with some late pressure and took one step closer to cup final glory.
