- First Defeat For Beechfield United Ladies
On Sunday 18th April 2021 Beechfield United Ladies suffered their first defeat of the season when they lost 3-1 at home to Hyde United FC Women's team.
Beechy were without a couple of key players but despite having to make team changes still had a strong line-up on view. Hyde United quickly mounted an early attack and forced a throw-in but Beechy won the ball back and in the 2nd minute a long range effort by Stacy Partridge went wide of the target. Shauna Smith made a couple of safety first clearances when the visitors worked the ball neatly through the midfield and Beechy keeper Abi Thirst was also in action making a great save following a point blank effort from Hyde's No 10.
More stylish moves by the visitors featured their No7 and No8 but Beechy defended with real determination and both Danielle Farrand and Hannah Walker made important ball winning tackles. First real goal scoring opportunity for Beechy arrived when Becky Topping and Emily Walmsley combined to set-up Nicola Campion but the alert Hyde keeper made a brave save diving to her right to concede a corner. Then Emily and Becky were involved in another move and getting forward from midfield was Crystal Barker who was just off target with her first time effort.
Danielle Farrand had to retire due to an injury and was replaced by Sophie Wainwright on the quarter hour mark forcing Beechy to do a slight reshuffle. Following more good link-up play Hyde United took the lead after nineteen minutes via a rather simple move when Beechy were guilty of not defending against a long ball hit deep into their half which was was latched onto by the visitors No9 who fired it low into the net. Mia Pemberton playing on the left wing faced a tough opponent but she linked up well with Nicola Campion to force Beechy their first corner in the 22nd minute.
There were decent chances for Crystal Barker and Becky Topping but against a well organised Hyde United outfit Beechy found it difficult get an equalising goal. But after Hyde's No7 went close to increasing the visitors lead Beechy finally got back level when Crystal's long ball was controlled by Becky and she angled the ball onto Nicola Campion who added a close range finish. Some well timed tackles from Hannah Walker, Rachel Farrand, Shauna Smith and Aimee Greenwood was needed to keep the lively Hyde forwards at bay as the visitors continued to control the game
Sophie Wainwright and Emily Walmsley worked hard on the flanks while Stacy Partridge produced her usual high powered performance but Beechy didn't real fire on all cylinders in this match. Abi Thirst made another reflex save close to half time and Beechy were happy to be sharing a 1-1 score line when the teams took advantage of a fifteen minute break. Beechy kicked-off the second half knowing they needed an improved performance but during a cautious start wasted possession far too easily and when Hyde United went 2-1 up on fifty six minutes via their No11 Beechy had chances to clear the ball from out of the area.
Continuing to enjoy a greater share of the ball Hyde United created some quality football as Beechy struggled to get a better foothold in the contest. A great chance to make it 2-2 was on offer to Becky Topping who was sent on a clear run by a pass from Mia Pemberton but the Hyde keeper made a great save with her feet. After Abi Thirsk had sent the ball downfield it was volleyed back on target by Hyde's No9 but Beechy's keeper and Player of the Match reacted superbly and produced a world class save.
During a brief attacking spell from Beechy Nicola shot wide from close range then Stacy was just off target from outside the area. In the latter stages Hyde United continued to dictate the pace of the game with their No8 heavily involved from central midfield and she completed the scoring with her teams third goal after eighty three minutes. Beechy will be looking to return to winning ways following their next fixture when they travel to play Bolton Lads and Girls Club.
