On Sunday 16th April 2023 Beechfield United Ladies ended their 2022/2023 season in the Greater Manchester Womens League with a 4-0 away win over AFC Bolton Ladies.

*On the hosts Astroturf Pitch Beechy produced a brilliant all-round performance with all four goals coming in the opening twenty two minutes. Straight from the kick-off this Division 1 fixture created a rapid start and good defending by Joanna Szafranska, Shauna Smith, Megan Mirfield and Monique Pollard dealt with AFC Bolton's early attacking threat. Beechy won their first corner in the third minute and during a goalmouth scramble Bolton Ladies somehow managed to clear the ball out of the danger zone. Keeping the pressure on their opponents Beechy took the lead in the 6th minute via a spectacular goal from Jess Lawson who hammered the ball beyond the keeper from outside the area following a great tackle to win possession by Aimee Greenwood. Becky Gregory and Monique Pollard linked-up superbly in a quick one-two passing move as Beechy gradually dictated the pace of the game.

Beechy's goalkeeper Julie Ward easily dealt with a free kick taken by Bolton's No9 then after the hosts forced a corner their No12 blasted the ball over the crossbar. Several excellent passing moves through midfield between Stacy Partridge, Becky Topping and Becky Gregory led to Beechy easing their way into a two goal lead after a brilliant lob over the keeper by Jess Lawson. Safety first defending from Joanna, Megan, Shauna and Monique continued to foil Bolton's vaild attempt to reduce the arrears. Natasha Herity replaced Monique and Beechy's No16 was quickly involved in the action heading a corner by Jess just over the crossbar. After eighteen minutes Beechy went 3-0 up when a superb pass from Amie Barrett set-up Jess Lawson who completed a stunning hat-trick.

Four minutes later Beechy's fourth goal proved to be enough to secure the win plus the three points after Jess Lawson with her twenty fifth goal of season added another powerful finish following a move invoving Megan Mirfield and Aimee Greenwood. When Bolton Ladies enjoyed more of the ball they created a few half chances but Beechy always had the abilty to step up a gear. Producing more great movement off the ball all over the pitch Beechy could have added more goals as they continued to look a real threat going forward. Aimee G, Stacy, Amie B and Jess combined in a superb move and shot on target by Natasha forced a fine reaction save from the overworked Bolton keeper. From Joanna's accurate throw-in Aimee Greenwood won a corner and after Amie Barrett's effort was blocked the ball rebounded off a defender to Shauna Smith who's header won Beechy another corner.

After totally dominating the first half Beechy were expecting a reponse from the hosts and Bolton Ladies looked better organised when the second half got underway and an attempt to score from thirty five yards by the hosts No9 was wide of the target. Monique who had replaced Stacy received a pass from Jess and set-up a chance for Becky Topping who's low drive forced the Bolton keeper to push the ball to safety. Great defending from Megan and Shauna dealt with two corners to the hosts and Julie made a well timed tackle before grabbing the ball just inside the area. Becky Gregory started another flowing move involving Player of the Match Aimee Greenwood and Natasha Herity who's disguised pass to Amie Barrett created a shooting opportunity for Beechy's No25.

In the 65th Minute Beechy changed their goalkeeper when Jess replaced Julie but despite having to do more defending in the second half their four goal lead never looked under threat. Joanna, Shauna and Megan kept the hosts forwards at bay while Monique produced several surging runs down the left wing. Efforts by Becky Topping, Aimee Greenwood and Amie Barrett went close to earning Beechy a fifth goal during the latter stages of the game and Beechy were still on the attack when the referee blew his whistle for full time. Following fourteen Division 1 league games Beechy finished in fifth place in the table with a total of twenty four points.
