- Junior Section Match Details 20/4/2024
There was more brilliant news for Beechfield United when four more teams secured their place in the Salford and Districts Junior Leagues Supplementary Tournament and Challenge Cup finals. The teams await to hear the dates for these finals.
*Following a thrilling semi-final against Urmston Tigers Beechy U/8's THUNDER are one step away from Challenge Cup success. This semi-final was an all action end to end tie that ended with Thunder be declared the winners following a penalty kick decider. From the kick-off Beechy were camped in their opponents half and Storm took the lead when George Kelly fired the ball home from the left hand side of the area but within seconds Urmston equalised. Beechy issued a positive response and with a left footed strike Chase Sixsmith restored the lead then moments before half time the Tigers were back level again. The Beechy Boys were getting nervous as they just couldn't get a comfortable lead and early in the second half found themselves behind for the first time. Squeezing the ball into the net from close range Chase Sixsmith equalised and when Storm hunted for a winning goal several attempts just missed the target and against the run of play Urmston took the lead. Searching for an equaliser Beechy pushed more players forward but their hopes of another goal looked remote. Via the counter-attack Urmston thought they had scored again but on two occasions Storm's goalkeeper Oscar Spencer made to world class saves following powerful efforts. With seconds remaining Harrison Spencer gained possession on the right hand side of the area and fired the ball into the far corner of the net to force the penalty-kick decider. In the penalty shoot-out both Grayson Owen and Harrison Spencer netted their spot-kicks and voted Man of the Match was Oscar Spencer.
*A place in the U/9's Challenge Cup final was guaranteed for Beechy STORM after their semi-final victory over AFC Urmston Predators. Seth Barber and Isaac Hargreaves fired in the goals for Beechy while Seth, Bobby Lowe and Jacob Foster supplied the assists. Alfie Heighway, Kade Doyle, Harry Heathcote-Clare, Oscar Pugh, Oscar-Bobby Berry, Harry Chambers and George Savage were also in action for Storm in this star-studded display.
*Securing a well deserved win in the Salford and Districts Junior League Green Group were Beechy U/8's STORM who met AFC Urmston Vikings at home. Storm's squad was Sonny Cox, Corey Davies, Alfie Garner, Calvin Hunter, Lucas King, Rocky Linehan, Jacob McLoughlin and Charlie Schofield who scored both Beechy goals.
*In the Red Group Beechy U/10's STORM were away at Ordsall Dragons a team they hadn't played before. During a closely fought first half Storm took the lead via a great strike by Jack Sinclair who drilled the ball home off the crossbar from the edge of the area. Beechy looked strong at this stage but against the run of play a long goal kick caught Storm off guard and Ordsall equalised then thirty seconds before half time the hosts scored again. The second half produced another competitive, feisty and closely fought affair and after Ordsall increased their lead storm finally got their act together and from a goal kick Austin Pierce won possession just over the halfway line and after taking a touch on the ball lobbed it over the keeper to complete the scoring. Named Beechy's Man of the Match was Barkley Pope who's tenacious tackling and great runs got Storm going forward throughout the game.
*Winton Wanderers Wolverines were the U/10's LIGHTNING opponents when the teams met at Cranbrook Road. Beechy who lost the previous game between the teams were hoping they had made progress since then. Lightning produced a good start to this Green Group fixture and both Austin Fillingham and Crewe Reeves had chances to open the scoring. It was an excellent candidate for goal of the season that eventually gave Beechy the lead when Kayson Gregg won the ball in his own half and during a powerful run beat four Winton players before adding a lovely left footed finish past the keeper. Lightning created loads more chances and didn't have to wait long before they added their second goal through Austin Fillingham who with his left foot fired the ball into the bottom corner of the net. The second half produced a much more even game and Winton were probably a bit unlucky not to score a few goals. The Beechy Boys worked hard to secure their victory with keeper James Hardman making some brilliant save. Austin and James shared the Player of the Match award.
*Also playing a Winton Wanderers team were Beechy U/10's TORNADOES who faced a tough game in the Green Group against their opponents who have played in a higher division for most of the season. The game was played 8v8 to slowly build up towards the teams moving up to 9-a-side next season and Winton dominated the first half as they limited the Tornadoes to just a couple of half chances. Despite the pressure Beechy's defence held firm with some great last ditch tackling plus several superb saves from keeper Oscar Bennetta. The Tornadoes were a goal down at the break and the plan in the second half was keep it tight at the back while using the counter-attack as their best way back into the game. A great solo run by Anika Wojciak took her past four opponents and she was unlucky to see her shot blocked. Winton kept control and the hosts scored three more goals without reply to earn a deserved victory.
*On a great run at the moment are the U/11's TORNADOES (9v9) who met RSJFC at home in the Blue Group. The Beechy Boys created another highly impressive performance and were rewarded with a high scoring victory. Goalscorers for the Tornadoes were Lynott Cassidy, Lucio Riva, Zack MacKinnon, Kian Murphy, Luke Bennett, Max Blood and Ralph Phillips, Supplying the assists for the goals were Lucio, Luke and Zack.
*Beechy U/14's TORNADOES extended their unbeaten run in the Salford and Districts Junior League to four games. At home to local rivals Barr Hill Aces on the Astroturf Pitch the Tornadoes were involved in a highly competitive Supplementary Cup tie that ended with a 3-1 win for Beechy. On target with the goals were Josh Beddows (2) and Jayden Hoye.
