- 1st Team Rewarded For Brilliant Performance
Following a Brilliant Performance Beechfield United 1st Team were rewarded with a 3-2 victory over Old Alts following their away game on Saturday 16th April 2022.
Conditions were perfect for football when the hosts kicked-off this Manchester Football League Premier Division fixture. Both Tom Allcock and Kurtis Lee produced some positive defending when Old Alts created a couple of counter-attacks in the opening two minutes. A shot on target from the hosts No6 was confidently dealt with by United's goalkeeper Prince Kojo as Old Alts maintained a positive start to the match. Gradually Beechy found their passing range and creating some decent chances took the lead in the 10th minute after Tyler Cooke delivered a perfect through ball and Callum Davies added a decisive finish for the opening goal.
Following a free kick Old Alts thought they were back level but a header by the hosts No14 was disallowed for offside. Prince Kojo made two more vital saves while both David Opiyo and Joe Poyser defended superbly during another period of pressure from the hosts. After twenty minutes Beechy went 2-0 up when Adam Leach forced a corner and from the resulting flag kick Keenan Switzer with great accuracy curled the ball into the net. Once again Old Alts put the pressure back onto United and David, Joe, Kurtis and Tom plus keeper Prince had to deal with more unwanted pressure. An effort by Old Alts No14 just missed the target then the hosts forced three successive corners.
A great move between James Olanya, Adam Leach and Callum Davies almost earned Beechy a third goal and a few minutes later Tyler Cooke, Keenan Switzer and the impressive Bradley Hodges linked-up superbly to create another good shooting opportunity. In added time at the end of the first half Old Alts reduced the arrears when their No8 curled home a free kick from outside the area. United were soon under pressure after the restart and great defending from Tom Allcock plus three top-class saves by Prince Kojo briefly held the hosts at bay. A volley from Old Alts No12 rattled the crossbar and from that moment Beechy needed to display a bit more discipline.
On the hour mark Old Alts were awarded a penalty for handball but Man of the Match Prince Kojo produced a brilliant save following the spot-kick taken by the hosts No14. Bradley Hodges who had a great game was replaced in the 67th minute by Zach Booth and four minutes later Zar Jordan took over from Callum Davies. Another United player who played well throughout was full back David Opiyo and twice he made excellent tackles as Old Alts foced numerous attacks down their left flank. A disputed corner resulted in the hosts getting back level at 2-2 and Beechy knew they faced a tough final fifteen minutes but United responed superbly and fully deserved their winning goal.
Zach Booth supplied a great forward pass to Zar Jordan who was clearly fouled in the area and from the resulting spot-kick Keenan Switzer sent the hosts keeper the wrong way to edge Beechy 3-2 up. As Beechy counter-attacked in the latter stages they relied heavily on their impressive defensive quartet.
