There was a disappointing end to their season in the Bolton Bury and District League for the Under 15's Tornadoes. At Stott Lane Beechy completed their fixtures with a Division D home game against Aspull Juniors who won the match 5-1. Jack Broadie netted the Tornadoes consolation goal and Harry Fletcher collected the Star Player award.
Involved in a feisty Division 2 game on Sunday at Beech Farm with Manchester Maccabi Wildcats were Beechy Under 12's Typhoon (9v9) who played well but struggled not for the first time to deal with their opponents star player. Three goals down at the break Typhoon rallied superbly in the second half and reduced the arrears with goals from Jamie Withington and Reece James but Maccabi eventually won the game 4-2. Ronan Mullen was Man of the Match following an excellent performance up front that included taking a couple of hard knocks from the Maccabi keeper and winning a penalty. Also deserving a mention is stand-in referee Stuart O'Brien.
A hat trick by David Olidoy and a goal apiece from Kyle Stafford and Man of the Match Daniel Williams were just enough to guarantee the Under 12's Lightning (9v9) a narrow 5-4 away win over Prestwich Tigers. In this Supplementary Competition fixture there were top-class performances from David Olidoy and Joel Idujusi who both deserve a special mention.
An entertaining Yellow Group 9v9 game between Beechy Under 11's Storm and Winton Wanderers Dragons ended with a narrow victory for the Dragons. Storm who lost by the odd goal in nine scored goals via Andrew AcKernley and Rian Hines and named Beechy's Best Player was George Healey.
Also in the Yellow Group the Under 11's Hurricanes (9v9) were beaten at home by Davyhulme Park. On reflection Beechy played well considering some players were playing in unfamiliar roles. Lewis Royle with a beautiful left foot finish, Kane Williams, Rian Hines and Etham Mangwiro got the goals for the Hurricanes who's Man of the Match award went to Michael Munden.
There will be no trip to Ayrshire Road on finals day this season for Beechy Under 11's Tornadoes (9v9) who tasted defeat in the Challenge Cup semi-final. Coming up against a very accomplished Parkwyddn Predators team was always going to be Tornadoes sternest test of the season and Beechy did not disappoint in their performance. The clinical finishing from their opponents set the teams apart and maybe Tornadoes were to rue their missed opportunities in front of goal, a missed penalty, not hitting the woodwork would perhaps have made a difference in what turned out to be an highly entertaining and even contest. After being absent from the scoresheet for a couple of games Finlay Fairhurst scored what turned out to be Tornadoes solitary goal, a powerful chip over the keeper from outside the penalty area that lifted the team. Tornadoes Management were full of praise for this performance, a great all-round team effort with some terrific individual displays from goalkeeper Freddie Wardle, Aiden Lawton and Ashley Tonge in defence, Edward Hughes in midfield and the returning Michael Walsh. Man of the Match however went to a player who typified the way the Tornadoes played this cup-tie. Non stop running, tackling and determination to set the tone throughout the team Owen Hogben carried away a much deserved award.
Beechy U/10's Hurricanes who were recently informed of their place in the Supplementary Cup final faced a strong Barr Hill Diamonds in the Blue Group. The Hurricanes knew they were in for a physical game against Barr Hill and it was Diamonds who took the lead when a ball played into the area deflected into the net off an unlucky Beechy defender. Hurricanes raised their game in the second half and at the end of an outstanding run by Oliver Hall his powerful shot managed to strike the keeper and the ball ended up in the net for Beechy's deserved equaliser. With five minutes to go Beechy went ahead when a ball was played into a dangerous area and the reliable Oliver Hall who was Hurricanes Man of the Match casually rolled it past the keeper. Sensing another goal was possible Hurricanes continued to attack but a stray pass gave the ball away and Barr Hill managed to equalise following a swift counter-attack. Two evenly matched teams had produced a fair result.
The Supplementary Competition match between Beechy Under 10's Tornadoes and Abraham Moss Warriors was an exciting game from start to finish. A brilliant goal by Thomas Robinson gave the Tornadoes the lead, Scott Howarth put Beechy two goals up then Reece Cartwright fired Tornadoes into a three goal lead. Abraham Moss fought back to level the score but keeping their nerve Beechy eventually won the tie following a penalty shoot-out.
In action at Beech Farm on Sunday morning were the Under 10's Lightning players who met Manchester Maccabi Monsters in the Green Group. In a great end to end encounter Lightning were unlucky to concede three goals from deflections. Despite being far the better team in the second half Beechy were unable to claw back the deficit. Lightning's Star Player was Enzo Patrick and goals for Beechy came via Presley Smith plus an own goal.
Playing away at neighbours Moorside Rangers Reds the Under 9's Thunder boys were very unlucky not to win this Yellow Group fixture. Despite an outstanding all-round performance Thunder were two goals down at half time but after Charlie Smethurst netted twice early in the second half it looked as if Beechy would go on and win the match. Unfortunately Thunder didn't find the finish to more good chances and somehow Rangers snatched victory with a last minute winning goal. The whole team shared the Man of the Match award. Two days earlier Thunder's players and team officials celebrated their first win of the season. Thunder met Beechy Under 9's Tornadoes in the Supplementary Competition and following a penalty shoot-out secured a long awaited victory. Thunder took an early lead through Jaylon Jones but the Tornadoes responded and at one stage held a three goal lead. Showing real determination and a genuine team spirit Thunder were fully rewarded with further goals from Bobby Leonard, Harry Norcross, Luke Loftus and Lewis Milburn but the Tornadoes scored again and the teams shared ten goals at the end of normal time. Stewart Kay, Martin Cholakov and Josh Beddows (Hat-Trick) were on target for the Tornadoes who's Man of the Match was Eddie McDonough.
An emphatic victory was just reward for Beechy Under 8's Storm following their great performance against Monton Sports. Continuing to show real development throughout the team Beechy once again moved the ball around with an air of confidence. Kingsley Walters with four goals (six in his last two games) Conner O'Sullivan, Man of the Match Ethan Seddon and goalkeeper Reuben Wardle score the goals. Seven days earlier Storm played some excellent football in their away game at Swinton Jaguars that ended as a score draw. Manager Martin Wardle's simple message keep your head up and pass the ball got through to the Beechy players and thus creating the highlight of United's performance. The teams shared eight goals and on target for the Storm were Man of the Match Kingsley Walters, Callum Norris and Conner O'Sullivan.
Getting back to winning ways were United's Under 7's team who had a Sunday morning Division 1 home game against South Manchester Sports Club. With no substitutes available and a last minute choice of goalkeeper it was a tough ask for the Beechy players. Sharing four goals in the early stages United were involved in an evenly balanced game but Beechy took control midway through the first half and held a healthy lead at the break. Thanks to some fantastic defensive work United were able to stay ahead and eventually earn themselves an emphatic victory. Man of the Match Oliver Cooper was in great form scoring seven goals with defender Thomas Brady getting the other goal. All eight Beechy goals were assisted by the excellent Aiden Gradwell and also producing superb performances were stand-in goalkeeper Jake Wood and Daniel Wharton.
