- 7/8/2021 Utd Draw 3-3 After Opening Day Fixture
Beechfield United's 1st Team began the 2021/2022 Manchester Football League season with a home game against Chadderton Reserves.
New Team Manager Mark McWilliams picked a strong line-up for this Premier Division fixture which ended as a 3-3. At kick-off heavy rain greeted the players and during a rapid start both teams competed fiercely for possession on the artificial surface. In the third minute Callum Davies had a great chance to open the scoring but two two minutes later Beechy did take the lead thanks to a decisive close range finish from Sam Bolton. Chadderton produced a positive response and their No8 was heavilly involved in midfield and he set-up a chance for the visitors No11 who sidefooted the ball over the crossbar. United's keeper Jack Galbraith was soon in action making a confident save when he dealt with a swerving free kick by Chadderton's No10 then another fine save by Jack resuced Beechy after a bad clearance had gifted a chance for the visitors No9. United worked hard in all areas of the pitch and a free kick curled into the area by Callum Davies was met by Kyle Galbraith who's header was just off target.
Winning possession in midfield Zar Jordan supplied an inch perfect pass to Callum Davies and Beechy's No7 fired the ball low past the keeper only to see it hit the post. Chadderton were a confident and well organised outfit and good movement off the ball by their forwards forced some vital defending from United's back four Tom Allcock, Byron Ward, Kyle Galbraith and Danny Royle. The visitors equalised in the 35th minute when the ball was hammered down the left flank and Chadderton's dangerous No11 who was left unmarked advanced into the area and added a decisive finish for 1-1. Several more clear cut chances were wasted before Beechy regained the lead on forty two minutes when after a goalmouth scramble Keenan Switzer casually played the ball onto Callum Davies and he slotted it low past the keeper. Just five minutes into the second half the visitors were back level again when United were guilty of some slack defending and the Chadderton No8 made no mistake from inside the area.
A header by Chadderton's No7 hit the top of the crossbar but it was Beechy who continued to create the bulk of the chances in this hard fought contest. In the 62nd minute United created another slick attacking move and from outside the area Zach Booth blasted the ball at the target and following a mistake by the visitors keeper Sam Bolton netted the rebound to put Beechy 3-2 up. Kurtis Lee replaced Danny Royle and as the game ebbed and flowed both teams were awarded free kicks galore plus penalty appeals at both ends were dismissed by the match officials. Chadderton's No10 forced a fine one handed save from Jack Galbraith and when the visitors looked hungry for more goals there was some brilliant defending from Man of the Match Kyle Galbraith and Byron Ward. Ashley Ward and Mike Phythian replaced Kane Rowley and Zar Jordan and both substitutes had chances to guarantee Beechy the three points. Following a free kick awarded outside the area the visitors No6 hammered the ball low into the net to complete the scoring in the closing minutes.
