Beechfield United Saturday Morning Senior Team kicked-off their pre-season friendlies with an away trip to Eastlands FC. Result EASTLANDS 2 v BEECHFIELD UNITED 2. (27/7/2019)

Last season both teams won their respective Division 1 league games so another close contest was expected. Eastlands started the better of the two teams in the first half and took the lead on the brink of half time. The hosts could have held a much bigger lead had it not been for some superb defending from United's twin centre-halves Kyle Walton and Dean Quinn. In the second half Beechy settled down and started to control the game and the midfield trio Matty McCusker, Ben Donohue and Wes Pierce stated to show their ability. United's pressure finally paid dividends as Ben Donohue hit a superb half-volley into the bottom corner of the net from 20 yards to make it 1-1. Beechy continued to dominate the match and excellent skill from new signing Owen Abanum earned United a penalty which Owen took himself and he confidently scored from the spot-kick to put Beechy 2-1 up. United looked to be sailing home with a victory but over confidence in attack resulted in Beechy being caught on the break and Eastlands were handed a late equaliser. A disappointing result however an encouraging opening performance.

BEECHFIELD UNITED 14 v HESTON 1 (10/8/2019)

United's second friendly was at home against Heston FC who just missed out on promotion to Division 1 last season. Beechy welcomed back several squad players including Max Leonard the teams top scorer for the last three seasons. The gulf in quality between the teams showed within a few minutes and quickly controlling the game Beechy had Heston pinned in their own half throughout the first forty five minutes. High pressure from forwards Tom Helsby and Max Leonard forced errors from Heston's defenders and after just five minutes Max opened the scoring when he nicked the ball off an opponent and coolly chipped it over the keeper. Maintaining a stranglehold on the game Beechy easily hit double figures with Max helping himself to five goals.

BEECHFIELD UNITED 2 v BROWNLEY ALBION 0 (17/8/2019)

At home again for their third pre-season friendly United met newly promoted outfit Brownley Albion and Beechy Manager Kyle Wray had a squad of twenty players to choose from. Making a bright start Brownley Albion were eager to prove themselves against a fellow Division 1 outfit. The visitors game plan was to feed long balls into their main striker but United's central defensive duo Kyle Walton and Dean Quinn confidently dealt with the threat. Kyle and Dean won most aerial duals plus they supplied ample possession to full backs Adam Boakes and Ben Rothwell who got forward down the flanks at every opportunity. Despite dominating the ball Beechy struggled to add the finish to some decent chances with efforts from Matty McCusker and Tom Helsby not troubling the Brownley keeper. But the pressure finally led to the opening goal thirty minutes into the first half when a fine effort from Matty McCusker was saved by the keeper but the ball fell to new signing Joel Sharples who slotted it home. In the second half Beechy started as they finished the first pushing Brownley back into their own half. United were awarded a free kick on the right flank and another new signing Seb Ward delivered a great cross which was met on the volley by the experienced Wes Pierce who made it 2-0. United retained control and ended the match with a comfortable win.
