- Dazzling 2nd Half Display Earns 1st Team 4-0 Win
Thanks to a dazzling second half all-round display Beechfield United 1st Team secured a 4-0 home win over visitors Royton Town. (21/8/2021)
This was United's second Manchester Football League Premier Division fixture of the season and it was Royton who dominated the majority of the 1st Half which finished 0-0. Straight from the kick off Royton Town dictated the pace of the game and Beechy's back four Tom Allcock, Byron Ward, Kurtis Lee and Danny Royle plus keeper Jack Galbraith had to deal with some heavy pressure. United were guilty of wasting possession far too easily and the Royton No10 making use of space on the left flank delivered some great crosses which forced successive corners. Intelligent use of the ball by the visitors No6 created a chance for Royton's No8 who's first time half volley bounced back into play off the base of the post. Some tenacious tackling by both teams kept the referee a very busy individual but overall this match which included some high quality football was played in a very good spirit. Royton Town always threatened to take the lead following more slick passing moves but both central defenders Kurtis Lee and Byron Ward produced some excellent ball winning tackles.
The second half soon developed a similar pattern as United slowly got a tighter grip on the game and a great move between Ashley Ward and Keenan Switzer set-up Callum Davies who's effort flew wide of the target. Sam Bolton's powerful header was saved by the Royton keeper then Jack Galbraith denied the visitors No8 with a top-class acrobatic one-handed save. Beechy took the lead in the 50th minute via a brilliant goal from Keenan Switzer who's audacious lob over the keeper created the highlight of the contest. Just two minutes later United went 2-0 up when Callum Davies added the finish to a move involving Man of the Match Sam Bolton and Zach Booth. Going forward Beechy's counter-attacking play was nothing short of sensational and in their various roles Kane Rowley, Tom Allcock and Zach Booth were more involved in the second half and Zar Jordan who replaced Ashley Ward made an immediate impact.
Receiving the ball from Sam Bolton near the halfway line Zar went on a mazy run leaving Royton's defenders chasing shadows and he unselfishely set-up Callum Davies who added the third goal. The same trio of players combined in the move that resulted in Callum Davies completing his hat-trick and the scoring in the 72nd minute. Substitute Joe Poyser who had replaced Keenan Switzer almost netted Beechy a fifth goal prior to Royton Town having a goal disallowed for offside. United next fixture on Saturday 4th September is a home game against Heywood St James.
