- Another Friendly Match Win For Sat Morn Team
Alkrington FC provided the opposition for the Saturday Morning Senior Teams fourth pre-season friendly match. Alkrington who finished about midway in last seasons Division 1 table are renowned for their physical and organised approach. BEECHFIELD UNITED 5 v ALKRINGTON FC 3.
The match was the first at United's new home ground at David Lewis Playing Fields and Beechy controlled the game from the start using the wide pitch to stretch Alkrington's defence. However against the run of play United found themselves 2-0 down after twenty minutes when the visitors were awarded a controversial free kick and penalty within the space of five minutes which were both converted. Beechy had created many chances to take the lead and were punished for failing to find the back of the net but they didn't panic and patiently moving the ball around continued to put pressure on their opponents. Wide players Issiaka Saba and Tom Helsby were always able to find space and working the ball into the box finally paid dividends when goals from Tom Helsby and Max Leonard levelled the game 2-2 at half time.
In the second half United were fully in control again and it was only a matter of time before they took the lead when a great run and finish by new boy Joel Sharples put Beechy 3-2 up. Ace striker Max Leonard grabbed his second goal of the game and another new boy Owen Abanum scored on his full debut before Alkrington got their third goal totally against the run of play. Named Man of the Match was Issiaka Saba.
