- Sat Morn Team Maintain Title Challenge
Beechy's Saturday Morning Senior Team made it four wins in a row with an important 3-1 victory over Baguley Athletic on 12/12/2020.
Before kick-off United's knew it was vital they secured the three points in order to maintain their challenge for the Division 1 title. Controlling the game straight from the kick-off Beechy quickly put the visitors defence under pressure but were guilty of wasting a string of goal scoring opportunities and were punished. Baguley Athletic took the lead about thirty minutes into the contest when Beechy's midfield players were caught napping and a visitors striker opened the scoring with a fine finish. To make matters worse United lost centre half Tom Scott in the first half who was the victim of a bad tackle which should have resulted in a red card but the referee issued a yellow card to the offending Baguley player. Dominating possession United increased the tempo as they pushed hard for the equalising goal and when the visitors began to look lethargic Beechy made it 1-1 through captain Scott Foulds.
Baguley continued to make some strong and robust tackles and following one over the top challenge the visitors were reduced to ten men. Taking advantage of having the extra player United found more space on the pitch and went 2-1 up when a deflected effort from Danny Browne found the back of the net. Keeping the pressure on their opponents Beechy attacked non-stop looking for a third goal that eventually arrived through Matty McCusker who grabbed his third goal in two games. United currently occupy second place in the league table and will be hoping to extend their winning run when they are back in action on 9th January 2021.
