- Junior Section Match Details 16th/17th Dec 2023
The final games of 2023 in the Junior Section produced several winning results and both Beechy Under 10's Tornadoes and Under 10's Lightning created excellent performances.
*After three weeks without a game Beechfield United U/10's TORNADOES were finally back in action in the Salford and Districts League. Away to Winton Mavericks the Beechy players were eager to get back on the pitch looking for their first victory since the opening day of the season against the same opposition. Play was fairly even in the opening five minutes but the Tornadoes gradually grew into the game and following a marauding run and finish Anika Wojciak gave Beechy the lead. The goal spurred on the Tornadoes and exceptional link-up play in midfield by Jayden Lowe, Sammy Omoregie, Alex McGrory and Ralph Theaker created a fifteen minute hat-trick for Anika Wojciak. Beechy keeper Oscar Bennetta made one outstanding save but he didn't have much else to do thanks to assured defensive displays from Reuben McCormick and Aiden Thompson. The Tornadoes continued to produce some impressive attacking football for the rest of the first half and added further goals by Anika and Sammy. Full credit to Winton Mavericks who improved after the break and as the Tornadoes tired slightly the hosts almost got a goal back when a deflected shot was superbly tipped onto the crossbar by Oscar Bennetta. The Mavericks also had another chance of a goal from the penalty spot but the ball was fired wide of the target. Beechy scored another three goals before the end with Player of the Match Anika getting her fifth,Sammy his second plus Aiden who completed the scoring from a cooly taken penalty with the last kick of the game. More impressive than the scoreline was the fact the Tornadoes had obviously taken on board some of the things they had learnt in training and applied them in this match.
*Beechy Under 10's LIGHTNING who were away at Deans Youth Sports started this Green Group game on the back foot and they had to thank goalkeeper James Hardman who pulled off a series of amazing save and Michael Schofield was also heavily involved when he made several ball winning last ditch tackles. Deans Youth eventually took the lead just before the break and Beechy's half time talk was mostly about being more aggressive and keeping up the workrate. Lightning equalised early in the second half when Eshan Shanahan via a fantastic shot fired the ball into the top corner of the net. The game had totally swung in Beechy's favour and dominating possession Lightning's winning goal arrived when Junior Davies sent a great through ball for Austin Fillingham to slot home from close range. Special mentions to Crewe Reeves, George Richardson, Kayson Gregg and Charlie Drury who all worked their socks off to help get the result.
*For the third time this season in the Salford and Districts League the Under 10's STORM played Moorside Rangers Blue. The game was finely balanced during the early period of play with chances few and far between until Moorside broke the deadlock. Beechy worked hard to get back in the game but were caught on the break and Rangers were able to increase their lead. During the closing stages of the first half Storm put pressure on their opponents through a series of free kicks and one caused chaos in the Rangers penalty area then another was hammered home by Max Schofield to bring Beechy back into the contest. Into the second half and Storm starting on the front foot were extremely unlucky on a few occasions not to score an equalising goal. Once again Moorside's standard of finishing shone through when the visitors got goal number three with just their third shot on target. The Beechy Boys never let their heads drop and playing some good football created chances and but for an in-form Moorside goalkeeper plus better finishing Storm could possibly have won the game. Rangers added a fourth goal late in the game to guarantee themselves the victory. Beechy's Man of the Match Harry Wharton was a stalwart at the back getting the team moving forward with some really intelligent passing. Storm's Manager Matt Wharton said after the game that this Beechy team had started the Under 9's season in the bottom division but have developed so fast they are now battling it out with the best in the Under 10's top division. Matt added that he can't wait to see what the team can achieve in 2024.
*In the Salford and Districts League the Under 11's TORNADOES (9v9) last Red Group fixture of 2023 was an away game against Winton Galaxy. Recent games between the teams have been very competitive so the Tornadoes players were expecting another tough sixty minutes. Beechy made a fine start and moving the ball around well created some good chances and after ten minutes the Tornadoes took a deserved lead through Tyler Ackernley who produced a nice finish. Not long after Zach McKinnon doubled the lead with a sensational strike from outside the area and at that stage the Tornadoes were controlling the game. But on the twenty minute mark Beechy failed to deal with a goalmouth scramble and Winton took adavantage to reduced the arrears then just before half time the hosts equalised. The second half was more of the same, a close affair with both teams playing good football plus adding a goal apiece with Lucio Riva on target for the Tornadoes. Man of the Match was Archie Charles for a fantastic performance at left back.
*Just five players were available when Beechy Under 8's STORM met AFC Urmston Meadowside Sharks for their Green Group home game at Beech Farm. Calvin Hunter with a hat-trick was on target for Beechy who lost the match by the odd goal in seven. Storm's other players were Rocky Linehan, Charlie Schofield, Jacob McLoughlin and Corey
Davies.
*At Beech Farm the Under 8's THUNDER met Parkwyddn Predators for their final game of 2023 which proved a sterner test than the previous fixture earlier in the season. Early in the game there were chances for both teams with the Parkwyydn goalkeeper making two good saves following efforts by Antonio Embalo. Parkwyddn took the lead but Thunder equalised shortly before half time when Chase Sixsmith was on target but unfortunately Beechy fell behind again seconds after half time before finally stepping up a gear. Thunder's second equaliser came via an own goal then following a shot by Harrison Spencer that resulted in the ball finding the corner of the net Beechy grabbed the lead. The final goal that guaranteed Thunder the victory was scored by Grayson Owen who was able to slide the ball into the net after a corner. Parkwyddn gave as good as they got forcing a series of good saves from Thunder's goalkeeper George Kelly. Despite a saved last minute penalty Oscar Spencer was awarded Man of the Match for his tireless battling display in the second half that set the example to the rest of the team.
*Playing away against Salford Storm Lightning the Under 9's STORM expected an even game to pan out in this Red Group encounter and attempting to pass the ball as they usually do Beechy made a confident start. Salford Storm created some decent chances from the left flank and the hosts looked a threat on the counter-attack but Jacob Foster did a great job dealing with Lightning's left winger. Midway through the first half Salford Storm scored with a well taken long range shot and though Beechy always carved out chances they couldn't find the finishing touch and found themselves two goals down at half time. In the second half the Beechy Boys were asked to be more direct as they were taking too many touches on the ball thus over playing at times. As Beechy pushed hard for a goal it proved to be a tough task and via another long range effort from outside the area Salford Storm increased their lead. During the last five minutes Beechy managed to reduce the arrears through Seth Barber who slotted the ball away well following a great pass from Oscar Pugh. It was Oscar who was named Man of the Match for his hard work, producing a fantastic assist and creating some good chances for himself and the team.
*In the Plate Cup the Under 14's TORNADOES secured a place in the semi-finals following their away game against Salford Storm Thunder. A dominant display in this quarter-final tie saw Tornadoes back four and goalkeeper rarely troubled. Goals from Finn Browne and Logan McFeely earned Beechy a 2-0 victory but sadly a late penalty was missed squandering the chance to give the tie a more realistic
scoreline.
*A brilliant all-round display by the Under 15's THUNDER earned the Beechy Boys a 2-2 draw with unbeaten East Manchester Junior League Division 3 leaders TRW Manchester. A few squad players were unavailable for this Sunday morning home game but making a confident start Thunder took the lead. Oliver Nangle sent a long ball forward down the left wing and under pressure from Rafael Djacy and Pedro Santos the visitors full back panicked and his back pass was intercepted by Pedro who slotted the ball beyond the keeper. After dealing with a long period of presssure during which Beechy keeper and Man of the Match Oliver Dalton-Bunker made several outstanding saves Thunder condeded an equaliser following a deep cross into the area. The Beechy Boys had worked extremely hard throughout the first half but the second half would continue to test the players character. TRW Manchester went 2-1 up from a corner when the ball was floated into the area and from about the penalty spot a visitors striker headed the ball into the net helped by a couple of deflections. After soaking up more pressure Thunder built a swift counter-attack and a good pass from Zach Bentham found Pedro Santos and his low drive just evaded the diving keeper for 2-2. Another good move by Beechy resulted in a superb effort from Mihail Saucheu which beat the keeper and hit the post and from the rebound Zach fired the ball wide of the other post. In the last minute Thunder won a corner and after the ball was cleared Rafael Djarcy won possession and he bent a shot towards the top corner of the net but the ball deflected off the angle of the post and crossbar.
