- Christmas Bonus For Beechy Ladies
There was a double celebration for Beechfield United Ladies team following their final Greater Manchester Womens League fixture of 2017. A 4-0 home victory over Didsbury FC meant that the three points gained resulted in Beechy taking over as leaders of the Division 1 table from their opponents on goal difference. Didsbury started the match with only nine players and Beechy quickly dominated possession with Natasha Herity, Julie Ward and Kim Holt involved in United's first positive attack. But despite having two extra players Beechy didn't produce enough clear cut chances as the majority of the game was played in the half Didsbury defended in. But full credit to the visitors who did get enough players forward a few times to briefly put pressure on United's back four of Krystal Haywood, Elina Parker, Debbie Winterburn and Julie Ward. Eventually Didsbury had ten players on the pitch but United continued to dictate the pace of the game despite playing well below their normal high standard.
It had been a frustrating first forty five minutes for Beechy Ladies but they were better organised in the second half and took the lead in the 50th minute. Kim Holt hammered the ball at the target from thirty five yards and after misjudging it's flight the Didsbury keeper could only help it into the net. Via some non-stop attacking Beechy went 2-0 up courtesy of a great piece of skill and stunning finish from Player of the Match Natasha Herity. The second half was definitely more entertaining and keeping the pressure on their opponents Beechy looked capable of getting a goal at the end of every attack. A firm header by Stacy Partridge grazed the top of the crossbar before Kim Holt added the third goal following a cleverly disguised pass from Natasha Herity. Soon involved in the action was substitute Sue Howard who featured constantly in a flux of stylish moves down the right flank. On seventy five minutes Julie Ward worked hard to set-up the chance for Becky Topping who completed the scoring with a precise close range finish.
Beechy Squad: Rachael Howarth, Elina Parker, Gemma Winterburn, Julie Ward, Krystal Haywood, Natasha Herity, Kim Holt, Debbie Wright, Stacy Partridge, Sophie Wainwright, Becky Topping, Sue Howard, Shauna Smith, Lauren Sharp.
