POSTED: February 01 2017 22:15:09 By Keith Long - Trophy Winning Treble Still A Possibility

Beechy's Saturday Morning Senior Team kept themselves on course for a possible Trophy winning treble following a 4-2 away win over Baguley Athletic in the quarter final of the Steeles Shield. Putting early pressure on the home side straight from the kick off United opened the scoring in the 14th minute after Wes Pierce neatly set-up Kane Branigan who slotted the ball home from the edge of the area. A scrappy period of play developed as both teams competed fiercely for possession and just before the half hour mark Beechy took a 2-0 lead. The ball was controlled by Kane Branigan and he quickly passed it onto Scott Foulds on the right flank and Scott cut inside a defender then fired the ball home off his left foot. United's third goal arrived on thirty nine minutes courtesy of a slick move involving Damon Whitbread and Roy Owen who's accurate cross field pass easily found Kane Branigan and Beechy's Man of the Match took one touch before hammering the ball past a helpless keeper.

On the hour a move started from midway in their own half eventually earned United goal number four when Kane Branigan supplied a great through ball and Roy Owen raced clear unchallenged and rounded the keeper before putting the ball into the net at the second attempt. Roughly five minutes later Beechy conceded a free kick just outside the area and the ball was blasted home past the defensive wall for the home sides first goal. Some slack defending in the 75th minute by United following a corner gifted a Baguley player a free header and he made it 4-2. There was no further scares for United and they were able to secure their place in the draw for the semi-final's.
