In what effectively was a second leg Beechy Storm took on Winton for the second week running on 3G this time.
Vincent in the absence of Alf manned the posts while George, Fred started at the back with Henry and Imad on the wings.
Evidently trying to break their own record for the quickest goal; Imad took the ball from kick off, finding Henry on the left wing who in turn kicked off proceedings with a cool finish from Fred who had made the break up from defence.
Beechy who possibly looked a bit too lax caused their own problems shortly after - a mess at the back allowed Winton space who looped the ball high and over Vincent in net.
Imad was typically creative down the wing, causing issues for the defenders though frustratingly having his cross shots saved by the Winton goal keeper & marked well. One break down the left resulted in a fantastic save by their man in goal.
Beechy did have the best of the rest of this half - following changes Reggie entered the field with James and both had an immediate impact. Reg winning the corner, James taking it and finding Fred who volleyed into the back of the net.
With both teams battling after a short break Henry re-entered, on corner duty this time swinging it in and finding James who took his close range finish well. Henry then came close to a goal himself and flashed wide with a shot from the left.
In a half where Beechy hadn’t really got going the second was typified by pressure high up the field - stoutly defended by Winton's well drilled players getting players round Storm whenever they had the ball and Beechy perhaps not moving the ball about quick enough. A number of shots blocked from Freddie, Imad and Henry.
Storm starting to overplay causing a lot of their own issues and Winton almost scored resulting in a great save by Vince who had pushed the ball onto the post and clearance by George. In another break away saw Henry heroically race back with a slide tackle to block a shot and again George clearing lines up the field.
Imad, who had been doubled up on most of the game produced the magic that was required to put the game to bed. Dancing in between three Winton defenders in the middle of the pitch and lacing it past the goalie with his left.
Some fantastic defensive position with Freddie’s & Reggie’s being key - constantly stopping any breakaway and distributing the ball - Fred got to Imad who again battled around the team, took it round a player, hitting with his right foot wrong footing the goalie.
Beechy did invite some pressure with Winton now playing on the break - a long ball not being dealt with a Winton being able to steal a goal back against the run of play.
Buoyed; though the team held firm - Reggie’s swinging left shot unfortunately went wide of the mark and George let fly from distance only for the keeper to spill and James agonisingly unable to poke his foot for what looked like a certain goal!
*MOTM:*
The players choose the MOTM (with a little input at the end for the coaches - the names mentioned was Freddie, two goals and solid at the back & going forward as per, Imad getting the team over the line with his landmark 50th goal of the season but pretty much every player voted for *Henry* who, not only created one from open play & one from a corner, was asked to play on the left and right at different points but caused mayhem wherever - however, above all he showed absolute determination throughout the game - constantly running whether it was attacking and defensively. Well deserved!
