Man of the Match – Rio!
A wet start to the day eventually gave way to a nice day for football. Parents would have been forgiven to think Lester Piggott had ran a few horses on the Swinton plain but it was the Marauding Beechfield United Storm in a game prior who managed to loosen the turf.
Another game with some high tensions and the Moorside Team and Support well up for a battle. How would the Beechfield Thunder play this one out!?
A quick start with the boys playing uphill and struggling to get the ball up the field. Attacks from Moorside and some special defensive work from Angelo and Rio saving Bobby from the bombardment. Elliot showing his potential and growth was deep in battle throughout the field and had the crowd roaring with his runs and sheer effort.
Moorside were proving to be a good team and well organised and were able to pass the ball downhill and score an early goal. Rene picked up the ball deep in his own half and was able to use his swiftness and skills to get the ball up the field dribbling through several players and under better conditions would have secured a quick equaliser. Rene was again on the attack along with Rio but the Moorside defence managed to keep the ball out of the net! Louie on the wing was able to get the ball up the pitch and his trademark dribbling raising the bar and the atmosphere drowning out the surrounding games taking place.
Jose thrived in the conditions with tough challenges, muddy faces and coming out most of the time with the ball! Bodie was also relishing the conditions and showing improvement again and fighting for his teammates even though he had unknowingly put on boots a size and half too big! Rio was able to sort the hay from the oats and make it 1-1 with a superb effort and the tide had turned. Rio had the taste for this match and again had a fierce shot at goal with Rene in the right position to slot it home and make it 2-1!
Bodie again heavily engaged in midfield winning a tackle and giving some nice distribution for Thunder to break and the dribbling maestro Louie was able to break through and with the cool demeaner hoodwinking the Moorside defence and leaving them behind and in the coolest manner made it 3-1!
Angelo was able to stretch his legs more now and gallop like a thoroughbred, closing down play, dribbling forward in to space and distributing extremely well. Like the rest of the squad, clearly relishing the challenge and knowing that extra effort is required.
He made a great interception and break down the wing passing to Rio who was able to pull off another shot with a good save from Moorside. Louie made a great cross that was crying out to be connected to but Moorside again able to clear the ball. Jose after another muddy challenge was able to break down the wing and working with Louie had the crowd screaming with encouragement. The tough super skilled Rene showed real determination after some bad challenges and a heavy slog in the mud and still showed the desire and skills to beat players.
Elliot reduced the opposition to a canter while he stretched his legs and gave himself space for some nice passing. Bodie was involved in a heavy challenge which he won and then again found his pass and even though on the lookout for a new farrier gave a crowd pleasing solid performance. Bobby was solid in the net and showed great courage and was able to find players to pass to when required and own his area. Rio was able to run the game, almost literally and the ground covered and his goals in such conditions was an inspiration for the team.
The progress and effort of the team especially through tough parts of the first half was superb. Again, all up for the challenge, fighting for each other and showing great courage and determination.
