- Players Cup Victory For Under 17's Thunder
Turning their attention to the Players Cup Beechfield United Under 17's Thunder were at home on Saturday 5th February 2022 to Winton Wanderers in the 3rd Round of the competition.
Winton started the stronger of the two teams and had Thunder on the ropes for the first fifteen minutes as Beechy struggled to get their passing game into gear. Once Thunder had settled down they began to test Winton's back line and Beechy took the lead when Jack Davies found space on the left wing and set-up Reiss Miller who slotted the ball into the corner of the net. Prince Idusuyi punished a mistake by the Winton keeper when he put Thunder 2-0 up but against the run of play the visitors were temporarily given a lift when they reduced the arrears. Beechy who were suddenly under pressure were rescued by keeper Andrew Woodward who after being called into action pulled off some superb saves. Once Thunder had regained control and found a better rhythm space became available in key areas of the pitch and chances were created. Receiving the ball just outside the area Harvey Walker had both time and space before he executed a wonderful strike to beat the Winton keeper for 3-1.
In the second half Thunder stepped up a gear and six one-on-one chances were missed before Dominic Lawton saw the visitors keeper off his line and netted Beechy's fourth goal via an excellent finish. Thunder relaxed their grip on the tie and conceded a penalty but Man of the Match Andrew Woodward became the instant hero when he produced a fantastic save pushing the ball onto the crossbar before a Beechy player cleared it away for a throw-in. Ryley Walker now playing on the right wing had a few chances to score before top-marksman Prince Idusuyi competed his hat-trick and the scoring with Thunder's fifth and sixth goals.
