POSTED: February 11 2024 09:50:19 By Keith Long - Junior Section Match Details 10th/11th Feb 2024

The Highlight of the games played in the Junior Section on 10th/11th February 2024 was the in-house Derby between Beechy's Under 10's teams Lightning and Tornadoes.

*This was the first meeting between the sides since LIGHTNING were formed at the end of last year. After a cautious start in this Green Group game Lightning took the lead when a strike by George Richardson hit the post and from the rebound Austin Fillingham cooly slotted the ball into the net. The goal gave Lightning confidence and for most of the first half they were the better team. The TORNADOES continued to soak up unwanted pressure but eventually Lightning added a second goal when Austin Fillingham was on target again via a shot that sent the ball into the top corner of the net. After the break the Tornadoes improved and forced numerous corners but they couldn't taken advantage as they searched to reduce the arrears. With both defences on top clear cut chances were few and far between for both sides in a relatively evenly contested second half. The Tornadoes best chance came five minutes from the end when Freya Quinn forced Lightning's keeper James Hardman to make an outstanding save. Lightning fully deserved their victory but the Tornadoes will have the chance of a quick revenge because the teams meet again next Saturday in the Supplementary Tournament. After such a low scoring game where defences were on top it was no real surprise that a defender from each team was voted Player of the Match. Eshan Shanahan for Lightning and likewise Reuben McCormick for the Tornadoes.

*In the Bolton Bury and District League the Under 16's HURRICANES met Parkwyddn Predators at Littleton Road. This Section C game produced an even first half and at the break the score was 0-0 but the Hurricanes totally dominated the second half and thanks to some clinical finishing won the match 8-1. Yafet Ogubay and Nicholas Green shared the Man of the Match award and on target with the goals for Beechy were Kane Wood (Hat-Trick) Oghenekaro Oluwamfemi-Ibodje (2) Oliver Sheridan, Ethan Mangwiro and Brandon Cini.

*In cold and misty conditions the Under 15's HURRICANES faced Salford Lads for their Salford and Districts League Division 1 home fixture. Beechy were in control throughout and making a bright start went 1-0 up via Henry Errington after great play by JJLowery. An audacious lob from Owen Hogben netted the Hurricanes second goal and Beechy kept the pressure on the visitors when Josh Whitehead's corner was only half cleared and Zach Davies fired the ball into the net for his first Hurricanes league goal. Beechy had a valid goal disallowed before half time but they extended their lead in the second half through Finlay Unsworth. Another superb corner taken by Joshua Whitehead found Rafael Djacy in the area and he made no mistake from eight yards when he made it 5-0. Henry Errington and Oliver Nangle combined superbly in midfield and Alfie Rostron added an excellent finish for the sixth goal. Salford United continued to play with a good work ethic but the visitors rarely threatened to find a goal. The Hurricanes seventh goal arrived when Joshua Whitehead delivered another brilliant corner and Man of the Match Zach Davies was on target following an overhead kick. Finlay Unsworth completed the scoring after he controlled the ball on his chest before firing it home from the edge of the area. Result: Hurricanes 8 v Salford Lads 0.

*On Sunday morning in the East Manchester Junior League Beechfield United Under 15's THUNDER were at home against Brendon Bees. In Division 3 the game produced an even end-to-end start and following a stylish move Beechy took the lead when a great pass from Jack Logan-Knox on the right wing set-up Rafael Djacy who's close range finish gave the vistors keeper no chance. Soon after Brendon Bees equalised with their first shot on target when a long ball caught Thunder's defenders out of position and though Beechy were the better team they conceded a second goal. Dominating the opening ten minutes of the second half Thunder went close to getting back level before Brendon Bees went 3-1 up against the run of play. Winning a dubious free kick the visitors added a fourth goal when Thunder's keeper Oliver Dalton-Bunker was well positioned to make a save but the ball deflected of a Bees player and into the net. This was a disappointing result for Beechy following a fairly even game in which the visitors keeper made some excellent saves. Joshua Whitehead was Thunder's Man of the Match.

*At home to Salford and Districts League Division 2 leaders Wythenshawe Celtic the Under 14's TORNADOES made a confident start to the game but at one stage were 4-1 down after conceding a ludicrous and needless penalty. The Beechy Boys fought back and in the last fifteen minutes reduced the arrears with two goals to give the scoreline some respectability. Goalscorers for the Tornadoes who lost the game 4-3 were Oscar Mather (penalty) Jayden Hoye and Josh Beddows.

*The Under 12's THUNDER (9v9) travelled to play Urmston Town Tigers for their latest Division 4 fixture. Making a flying start Thunder had the Tigers pinned in their own half following a powerful attacking surge. Beechy opened the scoring when Jacob McGoff confidently dealt with a bouncing ball before lobbing it over the keeper for 1-0. Thunder continued to apply the pressure on their opponents but against the run of play the Tigers equalised after a long ball caused a mix-up between a defender and goalkeeper who was wrong footed and the ball ended up in the Beechy net. Guilty of over playing at the back Thunder went 2-1 down when from a goal kick a defender was caught in possession allowing a Tigers striker to add a close range finish. Another bad defensive mistake in the second half gifted the hosts a 3-1 lead and though Thunder made several changes they struggled to find a real flow to their play and Beechy conceded a fourth goal late in the game. During the next three Saturday's Thunder will be involved in Group Games in the Supplementary Cup.

*Making it two wins on the trot in the Salford and Districts League 9v9 Blue Group were Beechy Under 11's TORNADOES who were at home to Winton Wanderers Lions. Lynott Cassidy netted twice for the Tornadoes while Lucio Riva and Kian Murphy were also on target with a goal apiece. Lucio was also credited with two assists.

*Looking to get back to winning ways were the Under 10's STORM when they played a strong De La Salle team at Eccles College. Despite recent results the Beechy Boys always showed what it's all about to be part of the club as they played with pride, passion, energy and effort. The first half of this Red Group game was a tight affair with both sides struggling to create chances as both defences remained on top. It was De La Salle who took the lead after a rare defensive lapse by Storm and the ball was eventually bundled into the net. The hosts retained their one goal advantage at half time while the second half was another tight affair with both teams cancelling each other out. Gradually Beechy started to create a few more chances but as they pushed hard for an equaliser left gaps at the back and a failed clearance in the box resulted in De La Salle adding their second goal. Towards the back end of the contest Storm conceded two more goals but this was a much tighter game than the scoreline which flattered De La Salle suggests. This was a great response by Storm after last weeks poor performance and the Beechy Boys can be proud that they gave one of the best teams in their age group a really good game.

*Beechy Under 9's STORM had a full squad available for their Red Group away game with Salford Storm Lightning. The teams shared four goals and on target for Beechy were Alfie Heighway and Bobby Lowe and named Man of the Match was Isaac Hargreaves. Beechy's other players were Seth Barber, Kade Doyle, Harry Heathcote-Clare, Jacob Foster, Oscar Pugh, Oscar-Bobby Berry, Harry Chambers and George Savage.

*In their Red Group game against Salford Storm Tornadoes the Under 8's STORM had the best of the first half and held a comfortable lead at the break. Antonio Embalo opened the scoring when he turned home a cross from Harrison Spencer before Harrison got on the scoresheet via a free kick placed low past the Tornadoes goalkeeper. Jude Bond scored Storm's third goal after his shot had squeezed the ball into the bottom corner of the net. Both teams had lots of chances in the second half but nothing clear cut until Salford Storm reduced the arrears. Beechy made sure of victory with a fourth goal through Grayson Owen who gained possession on the right wing and after racing past two opponents added a superb finish with his left foot. Man of the Match was Harrison Spencer for his first half display that included a great range of passing and his goal. Next Saturday Beechy are in Supplementary Tournament action when they play Urmston Meadowside Tigers away.
