- Junior Section Match Details 17th February 2024
On Saturday 17th February 2024 in the Junior Section there were three postponements, three teams had no game plus there was an away walkover in the cup for Beechy Under 12's Tornadoes.
*Beechy's in-form Under 8's THUNDER maintained their recent unbeaten run with victory in the Supplementary Cup. Away to Urmston Tigers on an Astroturf Pitch Thunder started slowly and went a goal down when the hosts best player opened the scoring. Beechy goalkeeper Oscar Spencer was thrust into action and kept Urmston at bay with some quality saves before Thunder equalised. Using his pace Harrison Spencer burst forward from his own half and fired the ball past the keeper into the corner of the net. Urmston Tigers almost regained the lead but Beechy were rescued by Grayson Owen who produced a spectacular goalline clearance. From that moment Thunder began to play some great football and Harrison Spencer was on target again to put Beechy ahead at half time. The second half belonged to Man of the Match Jude Bond who grabbed a brace, his first goal a fantastic right foot shot into the far corner of the net. Towards the end of the game Thunder created a wave of attacks and in the final minutes Grayson Owen netted Beechy's fifth goal before Jude Bond completed his hat-trick and the scoring.
*Without an official Salford and Districts League fixture were Beechy Under 9's STORM but they arranged a friendly match with Old Trafford Juniors. Kade Doyle, Alfie Heighway, Bobby Lowe, Jacob Foster and Oscar Pugh fired home the goals for Storm who won the game.
*Away at Monton Sports in the Supplementary Cup the Under 9's THUNDER were looking to make a winning start in the competition. Man of the Match Issac Fleet-Allen scored both goals for Beechy who unfortunately lost the tie that included seven goals.
*The Under 10's STORM were away to Winton Sonics at Cleavleys Playing Fields and the slightly boggy pitch plus two evenly matched teams created a good old fashioned cup tie. Winton started on the front foot and Beechy found themselves a goal down early in the game. Producing a positive reply Storm looked really dangerous going forward and with some better decision making Beechy could easily have got back into the contest. The second half created a similar story and some great attacking play down the right wing from Man of the Match Barkley Pope led to enough chances for Storm to easily win the tie. The Beechy Boys worked their socks off, defended really well against Winton Sonics attacking threat but missing those chances resulted in Storm losing by a single goal.
*Thanks to another solid all-round performance Becchy Under 11's TORNADOES (9v9) earned themselves a third win on the trot. The Tornadoes were at home to Winton Wanderers in the Supplementary Cup and without a few key players secured a deserved victory. Both teams played some great football and goals for Beechy came via Luke Bennett, Zachary MacKinnon, Daniel Badewa and Archie Charles. There were assists from Ralph Phillips, Max Blood and Luke Bennett.
*Beechy's Under 10's teams LIGHTNING and TORNADOES met for the second time in seven days and on this occasion were in action in the Supplementary Cup. The Tornadoes were were looking for revenge following last weeks Green Group defeat while Lightning were confident of continuing their winning run. Lightning made a decent start in the tie and should have gone ahead within five minutes but the ball was fired wide of the target. But Lightning didn't have to wait too long before they did take the lead when Eshan Shanahan opened the scoring with a crisp finish. Despite going behind the Tornadoes heads didn't drop and they began to press forward and played the game in their opponents half. After a few half chances the Tornadoes equalised through Alex McGrory who received the ball on the right wing and executed a superb low drive into the bottom corner of the net and though both teams had chances during the remainder of the first half there were no more goals.
Play in the second half continued to be end to end with Lightning perhaps having the slightly better chances. Lightning player George Richardson hit the woodwork for the second week running and Alex McGrory almost scored again with an effort that flew inches wide. Lightning would have regained the lead with about ten minutes left were it not for Tornadoes goalkeeper Oscar Bennetta who saved from point blank range following a goalmouth melee. With both sides battling hard and thinking about the possibility of a penalty shoot-out Lightning looked the more likely to grab a last gasp winner. The Tornadoes survived after two late corners before Lightning had one last chance from another corner in added time. Tornadoes were unable to clear the ball during another goalmouth melee and with virtually the last kick of the game Austin Fillingham scored Lightning's match winning goal. Both Team Managers agreed that this entertaining and highly competitive game was played in a great spirit by both Beechy teams who were a credit to the club.
