- Junior Section Match Details 16th/17th Feb 2019
Without an official game for nine weeks Beechfield United Under 15's Sunday team were finally back in action in the Timperley and District Junior League. Away to FC Bluestar Comets in Division 4 United collected the three points thanks to a dominant display that secured a 7-1 victory. Jack Thompson, Ellis Kenny and Fernley Davies were on target in the first half as Beechy raced into a 3-0 lead at the break. Bluestar Comets managed to reduce the arrears but United dominated the second half and added another four goals via Jack Broadie, Charlie McGreevy, Tom Anderton and Man of the Match Billy Wadeson.
The Under 14's Storm who are on course for a possible Division 1 and Challenge Cup winning double dropped two points following their Sunday away game with Manchester Maccabi Galaxy. Despite taking the lead Beechy didn't hit top form and at the final whistle had to settle for a 3-3 draw. Man of the Match Ben Garlick and Archie Cooper (2) scored the goals.
Short of match practice the Under 14's Thunder were glad to be playing again after having no game on the previous four Saturdays. Beechy were away to Elton and Walshaw Meerkats and with no substitutes struggled from the start in this Championship Division fixture. Elton and Walshaw capitalised on a mistake by the keeper and went 1-0 up but Thunder equalised when after the ball was put across the area it was turned into the net by an Elton and Walshaw defender. The hosts regained the lead and from then on it was one way traffic and without those substitutes plus with a few players carrying injuries it proved to be a difficult morning for Thunder who suffered a heavy 8-1 defeat. Jacob Lacey was Man of the Match.
Andrew Woodward courtesy of a brilliant free kick netted a consolation goal for the Under 14's Tornadoes in their North Bury Junior League Divisional Cup game with Prestwich Dragons. At Bolton Road Playing Fields Beechy produced a good performance but were on the wrong end of a 3-1 score line. Picking up the Man of the Match Award was Taylor O'Brien.
Away to Horwich St Marys Rockets in the Players Cup Beechy Under 13's Storm made a bright start to this 3rd Round tie when they took an early lead. A long throw-in from Elliott McClurg-Taylor was played into the path of Georgi Georgiev and he passed the ball into the net. Horwich St Marys couldn't get a foothold in the game and Beechy added a second goal when a pinpoint cross from Ben Delaney was met by Josh Everall who headed the ball home at the far post. A period of scrappy play developed before the Storm increased their lead after Georgi Georgiev got on the end of another fine cross from Ben Delaney and with his second goal of the match headed Beechy 3-0 up. Storm took their three goal advantage into the second half but the lead was soon reduced when following a breakaway attack Horwich St Marys scored to make it 3-1. Beechy missed a fair chance before Horwich St Marys scored their second goal then another chance for the Storm was wasted after Tawab Ogunleye rounded the keeper but he couldn't add the required finish. Heartbreak followed for Beechy when they conceded a third goal and the tie finished 3-3 at the end of normal time. The teams were then involved in a penalty kick decider and though Josh Everall, Georgi Georgiev, Ben Delaney and Tawab Ogunleye were successful from the spot Horwich St Marys won the shoot-out 5-4. Beechy's Man of the Match was keeper Harley Mullen who made some good saves and was unlucky in the shoot-out.
Against a much improved Deans Youth Panthers outfit the Under 12's Lightning (9v9) created more than twenty chances before they could celebrate a 1-0 victory. At home in this Division 3 fixture Beechy left it very late before the win was guaranteed when David Olidoy scored in the last minute and scenes of joy followed after the final whistle. Matthew Cory was Lightning's Star Player.
Beechy Under 12's Typhoon (9v9) started well in the Division 2 away game against neighbours Moorside Rangers Blue but after the arrival of the oppositions star men everything changed. Unfortunately Typhoon's makeshift defence couldn't live with them and it turned into a taxing mornings work and the character of the Beechy boys was severely questioned. Cole Winstanley was on target with Typhoon's only goal while Joseph Bothamleys character was never in doubt and he produced an excellent battling Man of the Match performance.
In the Under 11's Yellow Group the local derby game between Beechy Hurricanes (9v9) and Moorside Rangers Yellows ended all-square. During the early stages of the match the Hurricanes created chances but failed to capitalise and were made to pay as Rangers scored twice in the first half. Finding a better rhythm after the break Beechy's overall play improved but Rangers frustrated the Hurricanes with their offside tactic. Thankfully Dylan Walker was able to get a goal back and keeping the pressure on their opponents Beechy equalised through Seddik Saba who's tremendous shot made it 2-2 and that's how it finished. Following a brilliant performance the Hurricanes goalkeeper Alfie Gridlestone received the Man of the Match Award.
A depleted Under 11's Storm (9v9) only had eight players available for their Yellow Group away game at Swinton Lions and though Storm produced some wonderful football they lost the match. Joshua Kilfoyle sent a great through ball to Oliver Cowley who easily went past the keeper and from a tight angle netted Storm's consolation goal. The Man of the Match Award was shared by the whole team.
Producing an outstanding performance the in-form Under 10's Hurricanes created a high scoring victory over Deans Youth Sports. In the Blue Group it took Beechy ten minutes to settle into the match but after the first goal the Hurricanes dominated possession and looked emphatic going forward while remaining solid in defence. Overall this was a fantastic display from the whole team plus an excellent individual performance from Man of the Match Daniel Robinson. Goal scorers for Beechy were Henry Errington (second successive hat-trick) Dillan Caldwell (2) Oliver Hall, Joshua Whitehead, Alfie Rostron and Daniel Robinson.
Some great football that included numerous superb 1-2 moves via top-class passing of the ball was a big feature of the Under 10's Tornadoes display against Abraham Moss Warriors. In this Blue Group home fixture Beechy's Man of the Match was Blake Kerrigan and it was a brilliant pass by Reece Cartwright that set-up Thomas Robinson to score the Tornadoes only goal.
Wasted chances cost the Under 10's Lightning dearly in their Sunday Green Group away game with De La Salle Devils and especially in the first half Beechy could easily have been four or five goals in-front. De La Salle began the second half showing great determination and helped by some very questionable refereeing decisions took a three goal lead. As they fought hard to get back into the game Lightning got hit on the break and despite some brave goalkeeping from Man of the Match Jake Lewis Beechy conceded three more goals.
The unlucky Under 9's Thunder lost by the odd goal in seven following their away game against Winton Wanderers Devils. In this Yellow Group fixture plenty of chances were on offer for Beechy who should have been out of sight but they somehow found themselves a goal down at half time. Two goals by Caleb Horrocks and one from Charlie Smethurst saw Beechy go 3-2 up with ten minutes to go but Winton Devils fought back and won the match. For his two great goals and overall effort throughout the game Caleb Horrocks was voted Man of the Match.
Getting back to winning ways were the Under 9's Tornadoes who were away in the Yellow Group at Winton Wanderers Spartans. Goals from Stewart Kay, George Wadeson, Josh Beddows and Martin Cholakov secured the Tornadoes a deserved victory. The football played by Beechy at times wasn't great and occasionally the players lacked composure. Man of the Match went to Colin Twardak who put in an action pack full of energy performance.
There was a second successive Sunday Blue Group fixture for Beechy Under 9's Lightning and Beechy were credited with another great first half performance. But similar to last weeks match late in the contest Lightning were caught napping and opponents South Manchester Sports Lions scored their winning goal. Beechy's best players were Deenraj Singh who's unique flick found the back of the net following a corner and Charlie Swift who was superb in the centre of midfield.
Faced with another tough game in the top Division were the Under 8's Storm. Despite suffering a defeat against Moorside Rangers Red the Beechy lads are slowly adapting to life in the Red Group. Controlling the game for long periods the Storm were rewarded with a consolation goal scored by Connor O'Sullivan who also picked up the Star Player award.
