A good turnout for Thunder considering recent illnesses within the Team. The pitch in good condition even with the ongoing Manchester Monsoon we are living in. A busy day down at the Broughton Cricket and Rugby club a stone throw from Manchester United famous training ground ‘The Cliff’..
A good start from Thunder, Che quickly in Attacking mode and winning throw-ins up the pitch. Elliot’s new throw-ins like he’s been practicing with Gary Neville at the Cliff! Angelo covering the back nicely and Bobby staying fresh and focused in goals the Team were set out well. Che’s pressing up the field won Thunder another throw-in which was another Monster this time by Che himself that the Devils couldn’t deal with and Thunder were starting to test the Devils, winning a corner and pressing hard. Elliot and Rene worked well tracking back and attacking at pace, working well off each other and quickly turning defending in to attacks. Che in the mix again won a free kick and had a great shot which was saved well but via handball. Che handed the ball to rapid Rene the set piece specialist for the penalty who slotted it home nicely forr the opening goal.
Thunder had that Aura about them again and thwarted attacks from Salford with Elliot back on his plains covering the ground with ease along with the rest of the Team who were starting to play their Total Football as only they do with attacks from everywhere and ‘Attackers’ then covering the back. Bobby ruling his area he managed to scoop up the ball with ease, showing nice composure and a calmness which flowed through to the crowd who seemed a little ‘subdued’ this week for this early kick off.
A strong attack from Elliot with passing, movement and speed and Rene was found on the left breaking free from his player, sending the keeper the wrong way to score a beautiful goal slotting it to the right from the left side.
Young Louie was released like a coiled spring and before anyone could realise had pinged the ball in the back of the net with unbelievable speed and guile!
Bobby had some controlling to do at the back but had it covered and with Che and the Team covering well kept any serious attacks at bay. The Vultures were starting to circle (Salford Gulls going to the quays in reality). Bodie engaged in action through the midfield winning the ball a number of times and finding passes to release Louis for his mesmerising dribbling up the field and this time decided to release a superb shot from well outside the box where it slotted in nicely in the bottom corner.
Jose heavily engaged and pulled off a great tackle to save Bobby from heavy action. Che was in action all over the pitch with his usual great determination and helping his Teammates. Bodie found good possession in midfield to link up well again finding players to release with good passing and Jose was in full swing winning the ball and attacking up the right wing and was unfortunate not to get something from it. The Man of the Match Louie finished the game off from a great corner off Che and the Thunder progressed through to the next round of the Cup! Cries of Wembley from the crowd and the Boys were on top of the World with their five goal win!
Excellent progress from all the Team. Characteristic effort and desire to help each other and enjoy the challenge. Good tackling, passing, movement and great goals. A joy to watch..
