- Brilliant Performance By United's First Team
On Saturday 19th February 2022 conditions at Salford Sports Village were ideal for Football when Beechfield United First Team lined-up for their home game with Stockport Georgians.
In the previous Premier Divsion fixture between the teams Beechy suffered a heavy defeat but United were determined to make amends and created a brilliant all-round performance against one of the best oufits in the Manchester Football League. The match produced some great football from both teams and after taking a deserved 2-0 lead via two outstanding goals Beechy were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw. James Olanya made his United debut and operating in an attacking role was highly impressive during his time on the pitch.
United knew they faced a tough ninety minutes but they remained well organised throughout the game and continually frustrated their opponents with some excellent defending. Keenan Switzer gave Beechy the lead in the 37th minute when his world class free kick produced the highlight of the match. Georgians were reduced to ten players before half time following a red card incident and now with the extra player United went 2-0 up when Ryan Rawlings scored with a stunning volley.
As the game retained it's frantic pace the visitors forced more top-class defending from Man of the Match David Opiyo, Joe Poyser, Kurtis Lee and Zach Booth. A dubious penalty decision resulted in Georgians reducing the arrears then the visitors equalised four minutes later thanks to a superb goal by their No7. United's goalkeeper Thomas Ludden made a brilliant save after Georgians had been awarded another penalty late in the game.
