Manager Man of the Match - Jose!
Game moved to Bridge Street Astroturf from the planned away fixture. A crisp late 11am kick off with a full Beechfield squad in attendance and the pressure of the Cup looming through the Pendlebury Hub.
Both Teams started fiercely and with an added excitement struggled initially on the fast crisp Astroturf. Again this Urmston Team were well organised with a strong squad which seemed to have grown not only in numbers but size since the last meeting.
The Beechy Boys had to rise to the challenge and had some good play with Che having some good early possession and strong attacking play and Reni giving the opposition Manager killer indigestion! Countless runs and skills entertaining the crowd. Angelo had his work cut out at the back with some very important covering, tackling and distribution throughout the game.
Beechfield came under heavy bombardment and attackers had to help defend more and more with the Team getting stretched and struggling to keep possession. The Dragons went a goal up with a very well taken penalty leaving Bobby no chance. The Osprey was called in to action a number of times and showed even more improvement in ownership of his area and good courage and distribution.
Urmston’s good passing and counter attack proved too much and the hosts scored again with some nice football. The Beechy boys were up against it now and following some great efforts winning the ball through the park were rewarded with some luck with an own goal from the Dragons. Elliot and Jose battled hard through the field and required full concentration to keep possession as the Dragons were quick on the attack.
Elliot’s covering skills and speed coming in to action and Jose’s tough tackling. Rio as usual covered a lot of ground and made some great challenges, winning the ball deep and counter attacking and showed some excellent footwork and passing was really on form but the Dragons again had their very good Goalkeeper who helped control his back line well. Bodie again showed his improvement in winning the ball and looking up with composure and distributing well and had some excitement on the attack after winning the ball and breaking free towards goal he had Louis on the left but was confident enough for a shot but couldn’t get a proper hold of it.
Louie and Reni were starting to run the Dragons ragged and cracks were starting to appear in the Urmston squad. Angelo managed to win the ball in midfield, take a touch and strike a long range effort the keeper couldn’t handle making it level the score. Now we had a game and end to end action followed with the 2 Teams stepping up a gear, Bobby and Jose making some great saves and defensive challenges and Reni running ragged making a couple of great defensive challenges as well as attacks. Che was almost man marked and had some great runs both attacking and also required defensively. Louis showed some sublime skill with his dribbling again and after a number of attacks mesmerising the defence managed to break free and slot it wonderfully in the net to put the Beachy Boys ahead.
Superb effort from Rio helped Beechfield step up again and Louie was unlucky with a long range effort. Che and Bodie had to work hard gaining possession and Reni again broke free and managed to guide the keeper the wrong way by slotting home a beautiful goal with his left foot. Some excellent attacking from Urmston followed with Beechfield unable to find their passes to players in space which required some superb defending with last ditch saves all over and Jose helping Bobbie keep the Dragons at bay but they managed to pull 1 back ending the game with a win for Beechfield.
A really intense game with a superb effort from the whole squad, improvements all over the pitch with the players still learning their roles and its easy to forget some have only been playing for a few Months. The usual squad attitude to help each other out great to see and more game time / training together can only improve things.
