Parkwyddn Jnrs U9 Phoenix versus Beechfield U9 Storm Supplementary Tournament 22nd February 2025 Tournament

Storm was away to PW Phoenix at Patricroft Rec. After a defeat in the cup game against Swinton Lions and despite a quite extensive row of previous defeats in the league, Storm were feeling confident as usual. Phoenix took KO. From the off it was a battle in the centre of the pitch, both teams tussling to win possession. Storm took possession and devised a plan by playing the channels both left and right were the space seemed to be. After several attempts, Storm won the first corner. Phoenix defence was organised and played it out from their box and delivered the ball to what we noticed was a new number 7 for them. He powered through the Storm defence with magnificent pace for his age and struck the ball clean with some power to open the scoring.

Storm still looked confident going into battle and quickly made a couple of changes introducing Storm’s new signing Lucas Jones. He was turning heads straight away with his ball control, vision and passing into space for striker Charlie to run onto. Lucas found himself in space on the right wing and cut inside. Struck the ball with enormous power and rattled post, you could hear the ping from the side-line. Fortunately, the ball landed right in the lap of Charlie to send home top corner. Parkwyddn were obviously in a position to answer Storm’s equalizer when they quickly won a corner. As previously mentioning number 7’s shot power, he could also place a loft ball basically where he intended it go the hosts ahead in quick succession, this settled the score for the first half.

Storm kicked off the second half and quickly under pressure from Parkwyddn and their new number 7. Lucas King was quick to slow down and close runs with brave block tackles and this new move he has just invented a move during training to dummy their wingers and create opportunities in Phoenix half. Charlie put on a brave show too winning the ball back in Phoenix own half. This wasn’t enough to settle their attackers from penetrating Storm’s defence. Rocky was brave on plenty occasions with his acrobatic shot stops and safe ‘knee to the floor’ ones too. Phoenix still on the attack and managed to score not one, but 3 more from that number 7’s perfectly placed corners. Referee we thought was not on his A game. As he claimed to have ‘not seen’ a lot of checks, tugs and handballs from Phoenix. But who are we to judge!! After all the drama. A well deserved Coaches MOTM to Lucas Jones on his debut and Lucas King for parents MOTM Change in weather will hopefully bring a change in results for Storm. Keep your heads up lads.
