- U/7's Storm Match Details 24/2/2024
Beechfield Storm U7's Thunder v Urmston Meadowside Bears
Goals:
2x Henry
2x Archie
1x Ralph
1x Freddie
A bit of a scrappy game though Beechfield came through with a tighter win than the scoreline suggests but showed an excellent mentality to the end.
The first goal came from the visitors which was Beechfield's own undoing with the team trying to play out from the back and was caught. What followed was some progressive play by Archie who captain for the day dragging Beechy back into it with a finish from outside the box into the bottom right; quickly followed by Henry who was fouled and bent in a left footed free kick into the top corner.
Beechy then started to get going - a power strike by Freddie who ran forward with the ball lacing it past the goal keeper with a strong shot.
Beechfield added another great goal with yet another almost identical free kick by Henry again smashed into the top of the net from the right with the keeper having no chance.
A further defensive lapse let Meadowside score and on the stroke of half time a a fifth Beechy goal scored by Ralph gave them a solid lead following a scrap in the box.
A tight game in the second half with the lads tiring being a couple of players down through illness and holiday, a long range effort from Urmston found its way past Vincent making his debut in goal.
Beechy really dug in with Vincent making some solid saves in the second half and showed excellent distribution throughout and Alfie showing some great feet, strength and movement who was unlucky not to score having had the ball agonisingly blocked on the line. The game was put beyond doubt with Beechy scoring their third free kick of the game though this time by Archie who pinged the ball into the top right from outside the box to claim a brace.
The team faced adversity, Archie going off injured as well as initially going down but showed excellent composure to fight through making it 2 wins out of 2 in the cup with their final game next week.
MOTM:
Henry - some fantastic set piece goals showing that personal practice makes perfect which effectively made the difference in a tight game today.
