- Winning Start to 2019 For Sat Morn Senior Team
Beechfield United's Saturday Morning Senior team had to dig deep before securing a win following their opening Division 1 fixture of the New Year. Beechy were away to Baguley Athletic and were rewarded for a solid all-round display with a 2-1 victory. This game was played on a small grass pitch that normally is in good condition but on this occasion it was badly in need of a roller to flatten it out. The Beechy players were fired up for the game from the outset and United soon put pressure on the Baguley defence and this tactic paid dividends. Scott Foulds won the ball deep in Baguley's half of the pitch and quickly played it onto Wes Pierce who sprinted away from the hosts defenders then he rounded the keeper before slotting the ball into the empty net. Two minutes later a similar move developed only this time it was Scott Foulds who outpaced the defenders and he gave Beechy a 2-0 lead in the twelfth minute. Then the game settled down with United suddenly having to show their resilient side and due to the pitch and physicality of the match Beechy couldn't play their normal free flowing football.
After twenty minutes Baguley Athletic reduced the arrears when their centre forward produced an excellent finish from outside the area with the ball going into the net off the post. The remainder of the first half was very much end to end and both teams who played some pulsating soccer created chances galore. United took their 2-1 lead into the second half and during the next forty five minutes both teams put the other under pressure at different periods though Beechy had the greater opportunities to go on and win by a bigger score line. The whole team including the substitutes played a big part in this victory and there were several outstanding performances but United's Star Player was Kyle Walton who gave a dominant display at the heart of the defence.
