- Successful Start to 2018 For Sat Morning Seniors
Making a winning start to 2018 were Beechfield United Saturday Morning Senior Team who secured a 3-1 victory over Blackley Town. This Division 1 fixture was switched to Salford Sports Village and with a strong line-up on view Beechy enjoyed at least 60% possession in the first half. But United couldn't converted their chances into goals and found themselves behind on the half hour mark. Blackley Town were awarded a free kick and though United assembled a solid looking defensive wall the ball was curled into the net off the post. Beechy's equaliser on sixty nine minutes also came via a free kick and though the ball was initially cleared from the danger zone it was put back into the area and John Bolton skilfully knocked it past the keeper.
United went 2-1 up after 75 minutes following yet another free kick when after the ball had been booted away it was controlled by Kyle Wray who hammered it into the top corner of the net from 25 yards. The three points were guaranteed in the 88th minute when a succession of quick passes put Beechy on the attack again and Wes Pierce set-up John Bolton who fired the ball home from just outside the area. There were several good individual performances from Daniel Eckersley, Matthew Swift, Wes Pierce, Ben Donohue and John Bolton.
