- Junior Section Match Details 6th/7th Jan 2024
The majority of Beechfield United Junior Teams were back in action following the Christmas and New Year Break.
*Creating the headlines on Saturday 6th January 2024 were Beechy Under 12's TORNADOES (9v9) who celebrated their first win of the season in the Salford and Districts League. Away to Sale United Vulcans the Tornadoes boys and girls started the game better as they pushed for the opening goal but there were not many chances as both teams defended well. The pattern of play remained the same for much of the first half but it was Sale United who grabbed the lead after about twenty minutes. Beechy reacted well and got a deserved equaliser when Martin Pankov was on target just before half time. In the second half the game was again evenly balanced as both defences remained on top but ten minutes into the half the Tornadoes took a 2-1 lead thanks to Martin Pankov who got his second goal with a close range finish. Both teams had a few more chances but there were no more goals so the Beechy players were able to celebrate their first Division 6 victory. This was a great boost for the team that was established this season with a lot of new players. Thomas Hunter stole the show with his running and endeavour throughout the game plus there was a fantastic performance from Jace Richardson.
*On a beautiful sunny and frosty morning the Under 13's STORM had a top of the table clash with Monton Sports Wolves and in this Division 1 encounter the early chances fell to Beechy but they couldn't find the back of the Monton net. Monton opened the scoring just before the half time break and the hosts doubled their lead in the last twenty minutes. Roman Sandaji got a goal back for Storm but the Beechy Boys were unable to find another goal and lost the match 2-1. This was a great advert for Junior football and everyone in the Beechy camp were glad to be back in action.
*The Under 14's TORNADOES had no official fixture in the Salford and Districts League so they organised a friendly match away with Winton Warriors. Leading 3-2 at half time the Tornadoes produced a brilliant second half display scoring nine goals without reply. Goals for Beechy came via hat-tricks for Oscar Mather and Radwan Fakeeh, braces from Reece Smith and Joshua Beddows plus a goal apiece for Archie Lock and Logan McFeely.
*Beechy Under 10's STORM kicked-off the New Year with an away game against Winton Sonics. This Red Group fixture started off at great pace and you wouldn't think the players had had a two week lay off. After only five minutes Storm took the lead when Max Schofield won possession in midfield before beating an opponent and hammering the ball home. Remaining in control Beechy added a second goal following a corner that was delivered in beautifully and Kobe Glass was able to sidefoot the ball into the net. The hosts gradually settled into the game that became more even as both goalkeepers were forced to show their ability. As the first half moved into it's closing stages a momentary lapse of concentration by Storm resulted in Winton reducing the arrears then with the very last kick before the break the hosts equaliser via an own goal. Into the second half and though chances were available Beechy were the better team and but for some good goalkeeping and efforts hitting both post and crossbar Storm should have won the game. But Beechy were unluckly to suffer defeat because during the last piece of action Winton got a winning goal when the ball was deflected into the top corner of the net. This was a great game of football played in totally the right spirit and Storm will go again next Saturday in their home game with Wythenshawe Wanderers.
*The Under 10's Green Group match between Beechy LIGHTNING and Winton Spiders was a really close game and with both teams evenly matched chances were few and far between. Lightning started on the front foot but they were let down when choosing the wrong option in the final third of the pitch. Midway through the first half Winton Spiders scored the only goal of the game following a breakaway attack and though Beechy created several goalscoring opportunities in the second they couldn't find an equalising goal. This was a real frustrating day for the players and team officials.
*United's Under 8's THUNDER have recently played a trilogy of away games in the Salford and Districts League with Old Trafford Diamonds. On this occasion despite being ravaged by illness and injury the team still put on a great performance against the odds. Old Trafford took the lead and Thunder's goalkeeper Harrison Spencer made some great saves before Antonio Embalo got Beechy back on level terms when he finshed off a good passing move between Grayson Owen and Jude Bond. Thunder could have gone in front before half time following several good chances just missing the target while Oscar Spencer was in great form on the left wing. The hosts regained the lead after the break and George Kelly Beechy's keeper in the second half also made some great saves prior to Jude Bond scoring Thunder's second equaliser striking the ball from the edge of the area. Forced to deal with some Old Trafford pressure Storm just couldn't hold out and the hosts secured the victory with two late goals. This was a performance to be proud of from the Beechy Boys with Grayson Owen who was a one man shield at times never missing a tackle but he was pipped to Man of the Match by Jude Bond for his display of quality and grit. These two great teams will have more battles in the future.
*For their first game of 2024 the Under 15's HURRICANES travelled to play SDJFL Division 1 leaders Wythenshawe Wanderers. On a cold and foggy morning the Beechy players knew they faced a tough eighty minutes and it was the hosts who took the lead. The Hurricanes were still 1-0 down at half time but they fought back in the second half and got a deserved equaliser. A great ball delivered over the top of the Wythenshawe defence by Owen Hogben landed between the hosts keeper and Rafael Djacy who got the vital touch to find the back of the net. This was a very close game with either side capable of securing all three points. Sophiyulah Bakare was Hurricanes Man of the Match. Result Wythenshawe Wanderers 1 v Beechy Hurricanes 1
*Beechy Under 15's THUNDER were at home for their first game of the New Year in the East Manchester Junior League. Just thirteen Beechy players were available for this Division 3 fixture and following an evenly balanced start to the game visitors Reddish Vulcans opened the scoring from a corner. After a change of personnel and formation Thunder got back level when Sophiyulah Bakare won a free kick and from the dead ball situation Oliver Nangle hammered the ball from the centre circle and it bounced past the Reddish keeper and into the net. But the visitors regained the lead after Beechy lost possession and were caught out by a quick counter-attack. Early in the second half a great through ball from Oliver Nangle set-up a chance for Rafael Djacy who's fine effort hit the side netting. Reddish created another quick attack and their main striker forced a brilliant save from Thunder's goalkeeper Oliver Dalton-Bunker. Playing some great football at times Beechy got a deserved equaliser via Man of the Match Sophiyulah Bakare who produced a superb finish when he sent the ball over the Reddish keeper into the roof of the net. Just when Thunder started to dominate the game they were caught out against the run of play and a Reddish striker took advantage when the ball deflected into his path and he added a cool finish for the visitors match winning goal. Result Beechy Thunder 2 v Reddish Vulcans 3
