- Junior Section Match Details 11th/12th Jan 2020
Beechfield United Under 7's Storm played their first game of 2020 in the Salford and Districts League Saturday Division when they met Stretford Vics Albion away and secured a convincing victory.
Storm hit double figures and Beechy Manager Ian Lee showed total respect during the game towards the Stretford coach when he removed a player. This gave the Beechy boys the opportunity to retain possession and use the ball better in the hope it would improve their basic decisions. The whole team performed superbly and Storm's last goal was brilliant with three outfield players touching the ball twice before it was fired into the net. The players had the confidence to switch positions on the pitch and the challenge will come later against some of the better sides in the division. Kasope Alo helped himself to six goals with Rian Cox, Gino Fierro, Alfie Morris and Kai Barker also getting onto the scoresheet. Special mention for Archie Charles who may not have scored a goal but it was great to see his excellent positional sense and the use of his fantastic left foot. Both Archie and Rian shared the goalkeeping duties and though there are more tougher games ahead Beechy can look forward and are confident of a good cup run.
For the second time in seven days the Under 9's Storm were in action against Team Elite who won this Red Group fixture. Beechy didn't match their opponents work rate and desire but Storm are capable of so much more than they showed in this game. Only goalkeeper Reuben Wardle and Man of the Match Nathan Kay produced stand out performances.
On Sunday the Under 10's Tornadoes played Manchester Maccabi Sharks on the artificial surface at Salford Sports Village. In cold and wet conditions Beechy faced a difficult game against a Maccabi team who passed and moved the ball much quicker. Stand-in keeper Logan McFeely made some good saves throughout this Blue Group match in which Beechy had some decent chances but failed to add the required finish. The Tornadoes were only one goal behind at the break but Maccabi grew stronger in the second half and eventually secured a comfortable victory. On target with goals for Beechy were Man of the Match Bailey Breeze, Stewart Kay, George Wadeson and Oscar Mather.
Booking their place in the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup after winning both games in a three way Round Robin were Beechy Under 10's Lightning. Jeano Baker was on target in both single goal victories over Stretford Vics Albion and Winton Warriors. Man of the Match was split between three players Brandon Booth, Kaylon Salisbury and Kaylon Parton but every player made a massive contribution to United superb achievement.
In the Futsal League the Under 10's Lightning played their first game of 2020 against a very good De La Salle outfit. In a fast end to end game the teams were evenly matched until the last five minutes when De La Salle got a couple of late goals to win a twelve goal thriller. Beechy played throughout with only five players and fatigue set in towards the end and De La Salle who had substitutes available just edged it. Jeano Baker was Lightning's Best Player scoring four of the teams five goals.
Following an hard fought end to end enjoyable game the Under 11's Lightning (9v9) drew 2-2 with Winton Ospreys. Lightning lived up to their name as they made a whirlwind start by taking the lead after dominating the first fifteen minutes of this Green Group fixture. But despite keeping the pressure on their opponents Beechy were unable to take a much bigger lead into the half time break. Winton Ospreys began the second half showing a lot more determination and went 2-1 up but Lightning fought back and equalised then could have sealed the win with the last kick of the game but the Winton keeper pulled off a great save. This was Lightning's best performance of the season so far and voted the teams Star Player was Daniel Kenan for an outstanding defensive display. Sean Cosgrove and Daniel Robinson scored the goals.
Coming off the back of two victories a confident Under 12's Tornadoes (9v9) outfit welcomed Division 1 leaders Fletcher Moss to Salford Sports Village and three points for the visitors would leave them uncatchable at the top of the table. After withstanding some early pressure the Tornadoes took the lead when they were awarded a free kick twenty five yards from goal. Not many people knew this player had it in his repertoire but Morgan Dunne strode up and hit an unstoppable shot that beat the keeper clipped the underside of the bar and across the goal line for 1-0. The game flowed from end to end and it was Fletcher Moss who struck next equaling in the fifteenth minute but the Tornadoes regained the lead when a corner taken by Oliver Percival was met by Edward Hughes and the ball found its way into the net after taking a deflection. But soon after Fletcher Moss equalised for a second time and this left the teams sharing a 2-2 score line at the interval.
Fletcher Moss started the second period with renewed aggression and the league leaders showed their form as they rattled home two unanswered goals but to their credit the Tornadoes continued with their attractive playing style and displayed great character as the match moved into the final fifteen minutes. A breakaway move following a Tornadoes free kick saw Fletcher Moss extend their lead but Beechy piled on the pressure and a cross into the box was sliced into his own net by a Fletcher Moss player to reduce the deficit to just two goals. However time ran out for the Tornadoes who had certainly given the visitors a stern test and individual performances of note came from Morgan Dunne, Ryan Crosby and Ashley Tonge but it was JJLowery who was awarded Man of the Match for a hard working midfield display.
The Under 13's Typhoon played Barr Hill Clubs away and this Division 2 game was a closely fought affair. Struggling against a strong wind and a poor pitch Typhoon found themselves a goal down at half time that required the customary team talk at the break. Things looked bleak when Barr Hill went 2-0 up but Igor Osarinmwaian quickly reduced the arrears and had a couple more chances as his pace caused havoc for Barr Hill's defence. Typhoon dominated the match and created lots of chances but were repeatedly hit by the hosts counter-attacks in a really exciting game. With a minute to play Jamie Withington whipped in a free kick and Typhoon's Man of the Match Milonga Mututa head home a deserved equaliser for 2-2.
Extending their Division 3 unbeaten run to seven games were the Under 13's Lightning who hit double figures in their home game with Cadishead Town. Beechy Manager Nathan Hawthorne was able to give the players the opportunity to play in different positions after Lightning led 7-0 at the break. Charlie Harris who was voted Man of the Match scored four goals, Cody Brady (2) Joel Idusuyi via a great header from a corner, Daniel Williams with a lob over the keeper, Patrick Tifu and Kyle Stafford were also on target. Lightning's captain Liam Peers got his first goal of the season and dedicated it to his grandma who sadly passed away a few weeks ago.
In the Bolton Bury and District League the Under 14's Storm played Swinton Lions at Stott Lane and with the benefit of the wind in the first half started brightly and had a couple of chances before Georgi Georgiev fired the ball home from a tight angle to give Beechy the lead. As Swinton Lions struggled to get out of their own half Storm scored a second goal when Tawonga Chirwa powered in a header to put Beechy 2-0 up at the break. After the restart Swinton Lions made a confident start and quickly reduced the arrears when Storm failed to defend a corner and the ball was scrambled into the net at the near post. Then Beechy had a great chance to kill the game but didn't take it and Storm were punished when Swinton Lions scored two more goals to win the game 3-2. Man of the Match was Josh Everall who produced a great performance.
In action for the first time since Saturday 23rd November 2019 the Under 15's Thunder boys met Championship Division leaders Kersal FC. In this North Bury Junior League away fixture Thunder made far too many mistakes to get anything out of the game and found themselves 4-0 down at half time. Beechy never found any momentum until the last twenty minutes when they trailed 6-0 and though Max Shaw and Callum Snaith were on target for Thunder the hosts added a seventh goal near the end.
United's Under 16's Sunday team who's previous game in the Timperley and District League was five weeks ago were back on the pitch again when they played Egerton Lions away. This Division 3 game that went ahead on a 3G Astroturf Pitch was a closely fought contest and Egerton held a 1-0 lead at the interval. Beechy bounced back in the second half and thanks to goals from Matty Bennett and Player of the Match Adam Belfield went 2-1 up but Egerton responded and added two more goals that secured them a 3-2 victory.
