- Junior Section Match Details 13th/14th Jan 2024
Another Busy Weekend in the Junior Section and producing a dominant display in the Salford & Districts League on Saturday Morning were Beechy Under 11's Tornadoes.
*In their away game against Parkwyddn Predators the U/11's TORNADOES (9v9) started well as they enjoyed most of the ball in the early stages. Beechy created a couple of chances and Kian Murphy on the left wing was a constant threat to the hosts. Against the run of play the Beechy keeper cleared the ball but it fell to a Parkwyddn striker who scored from the edge of the area as he opened the scoring. The Tornadoes responded and equalised via an own goal and as their confidence grew Beechy added more goals following some clinical finishing. Zack MacKinnon scored two goals with fine long range shots and striker Lucio Riva missed a couple of chances but he didn't let his head drop and was eventually on target when he netted two good goals in the second half. Limiting Parkwyddn to just a few chances Beechy who dominated this Blue Group game earned a fully deserved victory. Tornadoes other goalscorers were Kian Murphy, Ralph Phillips and Max Blood and Man of the Match went to Zach MacKinnon who dominated the midfield and scored two fantastic goals.
*The Under 14's TORNADOES made the short journey for their away game with Swinton Panthers and secured a 1-1 draw. In this Salford and Districts League Division 2 fixture Beechy didn't have a great first half but they managed to restrict their opponents to one goal. Courtesy of Joshua Beddows the Tornadoes goal came in injury time following a free kick. Beechy played a lot better in the second half with several players going close to getting a goal plus there was a late shout for a penalty denied by the referee. Overall the Tornadoes deserved a winning goal but it wasn't to be.
*Playing their first game at Beech Farm in nearly three months the Under 9's STORM were in action against Winton Hornets. Games between the teams are normally close encounters and on an uneven playing surface producing good football was going to be very tough. Harry Heathcote gave Storm the lead with a fine strike and dominating possession from start to finish the Beechy Boys passed the ball around really well despite the difficult underfoot conditions. Also on target for Storm were Booby Lowe, Alfie Heighway and Kade Doyle while Beechy's goalkeeper George Savage who had a quiet game didn't have much to do as Storm defended superbly. Man of the match went to Oscar Berry who played in midfield and rarely wasted possession.
*At home to Monton Sports the Under 9's THUNDER played their first Blue Group game of 2024 on a 4G Astroturf Pitch and Thunder who made a bright start in the game enjoyed most of the ball as they created some good chances. Beechy were eventually rewarded when they took the lead with a well taken goal from Brayden Taylor who scored from the edge of the area. As they continued with their good start Thunder had a handful of clear cut goalscoring opportunities and they should have increased their lead. Monton started to apply some pressure and equalised following a mix-up in the Beechy penalty area and with their tails up Monton capitalized again scoring three more goals in quick succession. As they responded Thunder continued to attack and had a number of chances but just couldn't find the back of the Monton net and on another day the result could have been different. There was lots of good effort and hard work by all the Beechy Boys who are coming on well and growing as a team. Man of the Match was Hugo Balogan for his relentless hard work, good decision making plus his encouraging atttitude to get the team going.
*Away against Deans Youth the Under 10's LIGHTNING were involved in one of those games that could have gone in their favour because all that was needed was a bit more concentration and belief. Beechy made a slow start in this Green Group game and allowed Deans to dominate possession. Two defensive mistakes led to Deans opening the scoring then the hosts added a second goal ten minutes later. After the break Lightning finally got their act together and as chances were created both George Richardson and Crewe Reeves went close to getting a goal. Finally Beechy were rewarded when they reduced the arrears after Austin Fillingham fired the ball into the top corner of the net and though Lightning dominated play for the next ten minutes another goal they were unable to find another goal. With fifteen minutes remaining Deans scored two wonder goals via long range strikes and the hosts added to their tally from the penalty spot in the closing stages. This was not the result Beechy wanted but the Team Coaches were so proud of the players for their attitude and hard work. Charlie Drury was named Man of the Match for a great defensive performance.
*Also in the Green Group another Beechy team playing their first home game at Beech Farm in three months were the Under 10's TORNADOES. Making a lively start the Tornadoes should have scored in the first thirty seconds before opponents Winton Spiders raced to the other end of the pitch and took the lead from the penalty spot. Beechy were the better team for the remainder of the first half and both Anika Wojciak and Jayden Lowe amongst others almost getting the ball in the Winton net. In fairness Winton also had chances themselves but the visitors were denied by Tornadoes goalkeeper Oscar Bennetta who was in good form. The second half produced a similar pattern and Beechy eventually got a deserved equaliser when Sammy Omoregie scored with a low drive into the bottom corner of the net. But shortly after the Tornadoes were caught out when they pushed higher up the pitch and Winton regained the lead. Beechy pressed hard in an effort to get back level again but five minutes from the end the visitors grabbed a third goal and Wintion scored again in the last minute. This was a very good all-round effort from the Tornadoes on a heavy pitch which made passing and running with the ball difficult. Player of the Match was Ralph Theaker who played in numerous positions throughout the game and his strength in the tackle was particulary impressive.
*Facing unknown opposition were the Under 10's STORM who were in action at home against Wythenshawe Wanderers. For this Red Group fixture the Beechy Boys turned up in great spirits and started the game on the front foot. The early pressure paid off when after about ten minutes following a good passing move Kobe Glass hammered the ball home to give Beechy the lead. Wythenshawe had a few good attacks but nothing of real concern for Storm who added a second goal following another quality move. Joshua Lowery won possession on the left wing and after beating his marker delivered a lovely cross which was cleared but the ball landed perfectly for Joshua who from a fair distance smashed it into the top corner of the net. The rest of the first half was fairly even and though Beechy had a few more decent chances they remained two goals up at the break. Throughout the second half Storm continued to put pressure on the visitors but again they couldn't find the finish to a glut of chances and with eight minutes left Wythenshawe got a goal back which was harsh because Storm had defended so well all morning. But Beechy kept going and after some fantastic work from Barkley Pope who stood close to the keeper and distracted him he was fouled by the Wythenshawe goalie and Storm were awarded a penalty. Max Schofield confidently stepped up and scored from the resulting spot-kick to restore Beechy's two goal advantage and guarantee the victory. Unfortunately the match was marred near the end by the poor conduct of a few Wythenshawe spectators.
*After three players failed to turn up for the Under 12's THUNDER away game against Salford Storm Samuel Sulmataj volunteered to take on the role of goalkeeper in the first half. With a mix of uncertainty and players having to play out of position unfortunately Thunder conceded three early goals. Beechy forced their way back into this Division 4 game but Salford Storm added two more goals before Jacob McGoff reduced the arrears. In the second half Ollie Sixsmith was Thunder's goalkeeper and he rarely came under pressure as Beechy totally outplayed their opponents. Now playing up front Samuel Sulmataj was rewarded for his early goalie appearance when he scored a well taken goal to make it 5-2. Beechy's third goal came via Jacob McGoff who netted his second of the game but as Thunder pushed forward more in the closing stages they were caught on the break and Salford Storm got their sixth goal. It was a tough first half for Beechy but their second half performance was something to be proud of.
