Following what was probably the game of the season the Under 16's Tornadoes celebrated a vital 3-2 away win over Horwich RMI Blues. In this Section B fixture play in the early stages was virtually end to end and it was Horwich RMI who took the lead when a harmless looking cross produced the opening goal. The Tornadoes rallied superbly and sticking to their game plan were rewarded with an equaliser when Leighton White scored from the penalty spot. With the scores level Beechy went into the break the superior side and United continued to create chances straight from the restart but the finishing touch was missing. After Horwich RMI had regained the lead following a counter-attack Beechy piled on the pressure and with ten minutes to go won another penalty and this time Dillon Barnes took the spot-kick and sending the keeper the wrong easily made it 2-2. During a powerful attacking surge the Tornadoes were awarded a third penalty though this spot-kick was saved but the drama wasn't over just yet. In the last minute Beechy won a corner that resulted in the ball being floated into the area and during a real goalmouth scramble Man of the Match Jeanny Le Blance netted the Tornadoes dramatic winning goal.
Back in action in the Salford and Districts Football League after the holiday period were the Under 14's Storm and Beechy maintained their challenge for the Division 1 title with a 5-1 home win over De La Salle Reds. Goal scorers for the Storm were Archie Cooper who bagged another hat-trick Ishor Bajgai and Man of the Match Adam Rothwell. The three points gained moved Beechy up to third place in the league table.
In their Championship Division away game with Roach Dynamos Orange the Under 14's Thunder made a strong start and created a few decent scoring opportunities but were unable to find the back of the net. Midway into the first half Roach Dynamos got a better grip on the match and eventually took the lead. Several times Beechy were caught out via the counter-attack and Roach who were very clinical with their finishing led 3-0 at the break but Thunder did have chances to reduce the arrears. Beechy played some really good football but once again below-par finishing and an in-form Roach keeper denied Thunder at least a consolation goal. Despite dominating the majority of the second half Beechy conceded a fourth goal and went home empty handed. William Whipday and Dominic Lawton shared the Man of the Match Award.
Looking to end a run of three successive defeats in the North Bury Junior League were Beechy Under 14's Tornadoes who faced Division 2 outfit Middleton Lads Purple. At Bolton Road Playing Fields United made a bad start to 2019 when they lost the opening game of the New Year 7-2. Max Chidgey and Andrew Woodward scored the consolation goals for the Tornadoes.
Making a powerful start in their Section C away fixture against Woodbank Reds the Under 13's Storm went close to an early goal following efforts by Tawonga Ogunleye and Ben Delaney. A great move between Ben Delaney and Leo Barrett set-up Josh Everall who unleashed a shot that rattled the crossbar. As Beechy kept the pressure on Woodbank the hosts found it difficult to get out of their own half and were lucky to share a 0-0 score line at half time. The Storm quickly took control of the second half and moving the ball around with more accuracy got behind their opponents defence on numerous occasions but just couldn't add the finish due to a few loose passes. Finally Beechy scored what proved to be their match winning goal after good work by Rafael Ceita and Davelle Glasier carved out the chance for Leo Barrett to drill the ball home. Woodbank almost forced a draw but Beechy keeper Harley Mullen produced a superb save. Storm's Man of the Match was Johnny Walsh.
Playing away against Deans Youth Sports the Under 13's Tornadoes matched their opponents throughout this Division 2 contest but somehow Beechy lost the match 3-0. Producing numerous lovely passing moves the Tornadoes created enough opportunities to have forced at least a draw. Following a series of great saves Beechy goalkeeper Lewis Wallis was an automatic choice for Man of the Match.
A below-par performance by the Under 12's Lightning (9v9) resulted in the Beechy boys suffering defeat following their Division 3 away fixture with Ladybridge Pumas. On an artificial surface Lightning scored three goals in reply to their opponents six. Man of the Match Daniel Williams, Matthew Corry and David Olidoy were on target for Beechy.
Entertaining South Manchester Sports on a breezy Sunday morning for their first fixture of 2019 the Under 11's Tornadoes (9v9) picked up where they left off as they continued their unbeaten run which now stands at twelve consecutive victories. This Red Group game remained goalless after fifteen minutes and though the Tornadoes dominated possession they were unable to breach a well organised South Manchester defence. Leading goal scorer Finlay Fairhurst eventually broke the deadlock with his usual composure as he slotted the ball past the onrushing keeper following a great move involving Charlie Chute and Oliver Percival. The Tornadoes goalkeeper Freddie Wardle had become a bystander as the first half progressed due to the defensive trio of Charlie Chute, Alfie Ainsworth and Aiden Lawton who thwarted most of the visitors attacks. Playing against a gusty wind in the second half the Tornadoes continued to dominate the match and extended their lead after Edward Hughes won the ball about twenty yards from goal and instantly split the South Manchester defence with a brilliant through ball to Owen Hogben who produced a neat finish from six yards. Sam Rowbottom got the third goal drilling a left footed shot from an acute angle just inside the post this being reward for the Tornadoes striker who had seen great effort in the first half crash back off the crossbar. Rounding off the scoring in the dying minutes was Team Captain Joel Thorndyke who's individual dribble into the area saw his first shot saved but he slid the rebound into the empty net. This was another great all-round team performance in difficult conditions and picking up his first Man of the Match Award of the season was defender Aiden Lawton who's tackling and particularly his distribution of the ball provided the basis for the Tornadoes victory.
Involved in a tight competitive game with local rivals Moorside Rangers Green in the Yellow Group Beechy Under 11's Hurricanes (9v9) kept it tight at the back while upfront didn't take the chances created in the first half that ended nil-nil. But the Hurricanes continued to play some very good football and following a sweeping move took the lead through Oliver Sheridan then after another great move Dylan Walker put Beechy two goals up. An individual mistake led to Rangers reducing the arrears and when the Hurricanes lost their concentration for a brief moment they conceded a second goal. The Hurricanes didn't let their heads go down and working hard in all areas were rewarded with a match winner scored by Lexi Hiles following a corner. For his brilliant defensive work and ability to turn defence into attack Tanatswa Chirwa was named Joint Man of the Match with Dylan Walker who proved to be a constant goal threat and initiator.
Also in action in the Yellow Group the Under 11's Storm (9v9) travelled for their first match of the year to play AFC Monton Dragons. Cobey Cleary netted a consolation goal for Beechy who lost by the odd goal in three. James Cadwaladr was named as the Storm's Best Player.
Highlight of the Under 10's Tornadoes display against Barr Hill Hearts was some beautiful 1-2 passing moves throughout this Blue Group contest. The teams shared ten goals with Man of the Match Reece Cartwright (Hat-Trick) Blake Kerrigan and Charlie Backhouse on target for the Tornadoes.
Despite a spirited defensive performance Beechy Under 10's Lightning lost their Green Group away game at Parkwyddn Phoenix. Showing great resilience against strong opposition Beechy's Man of the Match honour was shared between goalkeeper Jake Lewis and defender Jai Devani-White. This was another improved display from the Lightning players.
Against Barr Hill Diamonds the Under 10's Hurricanes played well in this Blue Group encounter and had chances to hold a two goal lead at half time. Beechy lost captain Oliver Hall for the second half due to an injury and with a key player absent this game was a lot tougher for the Hurricanes. There were a lot of positives to take from the match and a great performance from Joshua Whitehead earned him the Star Player Award.
At home to Moorside Rangers Reds in the Yellow Group Beechy Under 9's Thunder went a goal up via Charlie Smethurst but United quickly conceded an equaliser and were a goal down at the interval. Charlie Smethurst was on target again early in the second half then Harry Norcross put Thunder back into the lead with five minutes to play. Unfortunately Beechy conceded almost immediately and Thunder suffered an heartbreaking ending when Rangers got a match winning goal with just twenty five seconds to play. This was Thunder's best performance so far this season and every single player was outstanding including goalkeeper and Man of the Match Caleb Horrocks who made several superb saves.
Every Under 9's Lightning player was credited with an outstanding performance following the Blue Group home game with Flixton Junior Wildcats. Goals from Man of the Match Broadie Mundy, Karrel Thomas and Jeano Baker earned Beechy a thoroughly deserved victory. According to Lightning Team Manager Gareth Booth both Jeano and Broadie were simply brilliant.
The Under 9's Tornadoes brilliant Challenge Cup run finally came to an end at the quarter-final's stage. Beechy played well against Majic Sports a team based two divisions higher than the Tornadoes in the Salford and Districts League. Majic Sports held a comfortable half time lead but credit to the Beechy lads who displayed great character throughout the tie. Logan McFeely was on target with the Tornadoes only goal and George Wadeson who was superb in both defence and midfield received the Best Player Award. All the Beechy players should be proud of themselves.
Beechy Under 8's Storm played their first full game in the top Division and matched impressive opponents Salford United Devils for long periods of this Red Group match. Ryden Coward was the Storm's lone goal scorer in a first-class display and it was during the last few minutes that Salford United were guaranteed the win.
Earlier in the season the Under 7's lost at home to Flixton Junior Lions but Beechy gained revenge following the away game. Despite going two goals down the whole team showing great spirit battled back and eventually won a nine goal thriller. All the players were fantastic and goals for Beechy came courtesy of Aiden Gradwell, Oliver Cooper and Man of the Match Thomas Brady who produced some brilliant defending especially in the second half.
