- 1st Team Produce A Royle Performance
Producing their best performance so far this season on Saturday 18th January 2020 Beechfield United 1st Team were rewarded with a 4-2 home win over Chadderton Reserves.
With only ten players available United kicked off the match that saw both teams make a fast start to this Manchester Football League Premier Division fixture and Beechy keeper Rob Harrison had a couple of early touches of the ball. Craig Massey and Danny Royle linked up well in some good forward moves on the left flank but it was Chadderton who enjoyed most of the ball in the opening eight minutes. The ball hit the top of the netting following a free kick to the visitors taken by their No11, then Rob Harrison made another good save following an effort by the same player. Some great footwork by Chadderton's No10 carved out a chance for the visitors No9 but he wasted a good opportunity to open the scoring. United took the lead in the 14th minute via a spectacular and goal of season contender by Danny Royle who finished off a move between Chris Ferris and Craig Massey when he hammered the ball with real panache via his left foot beyond the keeper from 25 yards.
Chadderton were soon on the attack looking for an instant equaliser and forced some valiant defending from United's rearguard unit. Mike Rogerson, Luke Johnston and John Purcell made some vital ball winning tackles and Rob Harrison produced a brilliant save after the visitors No11 had beaten the offside trap. Beechy were up to full strength when Ellis Carr arrived and he was soon involved after taking up a attacking position on the right wing. After twenty five minutes Chadderton were awarded a dubious free kick that resulted in the visitors making it 1-1 courtesy of a close range header from their No8. The match continued to played at a terrific pace and several classy quick passing moves by United were halted by an assistants raised flag. On thirty three minutes United regained the lead through Danny Royle who netted his second goal of the game after latching onto a pass from Craig Massey and slotting the ball past the advancing keeper.
But five minutes later Chadderton were back level again when their No10 ran unchallenged down the left flank and played the ball back across the pitch to the visitors No9 and he fired it low into the corner of the net. United had chances to score again before half time following more quality attacking play involving Louis Duff, Craig Massey and Chris Ferris. The second half was only three minutes old when Ellis Carr put Beechy went 3-2 up with a brilliant goal after he forced his way past a Chadderton defender and gave the keeper no chance as he blasted the ball high into the net from outside the area. More quality attacking football from the visitors forced Beechy to work harder to stay ahead but United responded with every player giving 100% effort. Luke Johnston and John Purcell produced more great defending as United soaked up another period of Chadderton pressure. Rob Harrison rescued Beechy with a crucial save when he dived full length and pushed the ball to safety after a swerving free kick taken by Chadderton's No11.
During the latter stages United conceded far too many free kicks and the visitors No10 curled an effort inches wide then Mike Rogerson was happy to boot the ball downfield when under pressure in the penalty area. United were guaranteed the victory and the three points following a free kick in the 85th minute when Craig Massey who had a first-class ninety minutes completed the scoring with a close range finish at the second attempt. A late attacking surge from Chadderton failed to reap any further rewards and after the final whistle Beechy's players left the pitch happy with their performance and the moral boosting victory.
